İlker Çatak (born in 1984 in Berlin) is a German film director and screenwriter of Turks in Germany, Turkish descent. He won the Foreign Film Gold Medal at the 2015 Student Academy Awards with his graduation film ''Fidelity'' (Original: ''Sadakat''). His filmography includes works such as ''Once Upon a Time... Indianerland'' (German: ''Es war einmal Indianerland'', 2017), ''I Was, I Am, I Will Be'' (German: ''Es gilt das gesprochene Wort'', 2019), and ''The Teachers' Lounge'' (German: Das Lehrerzimmer, 2023) which received numerous awards, including an Academy Awards, Academy Award nomination for Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. Hof International Film Festival
The Hof International Filmfestival is a German film festival that takes place in Hof, Bavaria, every year in October. Apart from numerous foreign productions, the main focus traditionally is on German films. During six festival days, about 130 films (80 feature and documentary films as well as 50 short films) are shown in 8 theaters of 2 cinema centers, adding up to a total of 200 individual film presentations. With the exception of the retrospective, all films are German or world premieres. History Initiators of the festival were Heinz Badewitz and Uwe Brandner, who were also members of the Hof "New Jazz Group", together with the artist Werner Weinelt, who later on relocated his art gallery to the pub "Galeriehaus" in Hof. The German Film Award for Best Fiction Film () is the main award given for best German film at the annual Deutscher Filmpreis awards, the German national film awards. It has been held annually since 1951 in varying formats. As the constitution said the prize was only awarded, if outstanding achievement was given, not every year a film was declared the winner of the prize. For the first three years, the Golden Candlestick was the highest honour for this category. It was then replaced by the Golden Bowl as a Challenge Prize, that would be passed to the winner of the next occasion, however as it was not given out for 17 years, the prize was abandoned for good in 1996. The 73rd annual Berlin International Film Festival, usually called the Berlinale (), took place from 16 to 26 February 2023.
