Turkey was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1991 with the song "", composed by Şevket Uğurluer, with lyrics by Aysel Gürel, and performed by Can Uğurluer, İzel Çeliköz and Reyhan Karaca. The Turkish participating broadcaster, the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) held the national final on 9 March 1991 at its studios in Ankara, hosted by Bülend Özveren. Fourteen songs competed and the winner was determined by the votes of eight regional juries. At Eurovision On the night of the contest the trio performed 10th in the running order following France and preceding Ireland. At the close of the voting the song had received 44 points placing Turkey 12th. 7 participants had voted for İki Dakika. Turkish Radio And Television Corporation
The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT; Turkish: ) is the national public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Turkey, founded in 1964. TRT was for many years the only television and radio broadcaster in Turkey. Before the introduction of commercial radio in 1990, and subsequently commercial television in 1992, it held a monopoly on broadcasting. More recent deregulation of the Turkish television broadcasting market produced analogue terrestrial television. Reyhan Karaca
Reyhan Karaca (born 8 November 1970) is a Turkish singer. Early life and education Karaca was born as the daughter of actor Ahmet Karaca in Harbiye, ÅžiÅŸli. She grew up in a family that was closely associated with music. At the age of 8, she won the Istanbul Children's Choir award. After attending Harbiye Primary School, she passed the exams of Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music State Conservatory, and continued her education at the Instrument-Training Department. Her admiration of George Michael, led her pursue a musical career in 1984. She completed her secondary and college education at the Istanbul Technical University. Aysel Gürel
Gönül Aysel Gürel (7 February 1929 – 17 February 2008) was a Turkish lyricist and actress. Besides her lyrics, which were performed by singers throughout Turkey, she was known for her outlandish clothing, make up and wigs. Biography Aysel Gürel was born in 1929 in Denizli, Turkey, in the western part of the country. She graduated from Istanbul University with a faculty of literature degree. Her lyrics were performed by such noted Turkish singers as Sezen Aksu. Besides lyric writing, Gürel also worked as an actress, drama player and a Turkologist. In 2007, Gürel appeared in a Turkish television commercial for Pepsi. Gürel was admitted to Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul in December 2007. She was reportedly ill with lung cancer. She died of chronic bronchitis at the age of 79 on 17 February 2008 in Istanbul. Bülend Özveren
Bülend Özveren (19 August 1941 – 18 October 2022) was a Turkish television presenter and sports commentator. Özveren completed his secondary education at (Istanbul) and higher education at Galatasaray High School. He graduated from Istanbul University, faculty of Law. Özveren started working at TRT on 31 July 1965, first as a television presenter before becoming the sports commentator in 1972. From 1973 to 2012, he intermittently served as the Turkish commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest. Özveren spoke English, Japanese, Spanish and French, as well as his native Turkish. İzel Çeliköz (born 29 April 1969) is a Turkish pop singer. She was originally part of the Turkish pop trio İzel-Çelik-Ercan, but after the group broke up in 1993, she decided to release solo albums. She is one of the most successful Turkish singers of the 1990s and 2000s. Career İzel Çeliköz was born in Yalova. In 1991 İzel represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest. Can Atilla (born 1969 in Ankara), is a Turkish musician and composer of electronic, ethnic, orchestral and new age music. Graduated from Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory in 1990 with a BA degree in violin, he has composed several studio albums as well as numerous scores for films, plays and television series.
