Čierna Nad Tisou Railway Station
Čierna nad Tisou railway station () is an important border railway station in the town of Čierna nad Tisou, Košice Region, Slovakia. It is close to the border with Ukraine and, as the railways have two different gauges, all trains have to change gauge here: the railway has 916 tracks and is the biggest 'harbour on land' in Central Europe. The first station across the border is Chop. The station is on the Pan-European Corridor VA from Venice in Italy to Kyiv in Ukraine via Bratislava, Žilina, Košice and Uzhhorod. Čierna Nad Tisou
Čierna nad Tisou () is a town and municipality in the Trebišov District in the Košice Region of extreme south-eastern Slovakia, near the Tisa (Tisza) river. History The town and municipality is one of the newest in the Košice Region established in 1828. In 1968, from 29 July to 1 August, Soviet and Czechoslovak leaders Leonid Brezhnev and Alexander Dubček met in Čierna nad Tisou. This meeting was followed by the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia on 20 August 1968. Geography The town lies at an altitude of and covers an area of . It has a population of about 3,500 people. The Košice Region (, ; ; ) is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions. The region was first established in 1923 and its present borders were established in 1996. Chop Railway Station
Chop (, ) is a railway station that is located in the small city of Chop, Zakarpattia Oblast in Ukraine. It is part of the Uzhhorod administration (Lviv Railways). General description The station is an important transportation hub and gateway to Ukraine, as most railways in its neighbouring countries have 1435mm standard gauge, whereas most of Ukraine has 1520mm broad gauge tracks. There are two border checkpoints: Strazh for Slovakia and Druzhba for Hungary. The station serves passengers and freight trains. Among the services provided at the station is only for passengers getting on or off commuter and regional trains. Pan-European Corridors
The ten Pan-European transport corridors were defined at the second Pan-European transport Conference in Crete, March 1994, as routes in Central and Eastern Europe that required major investment over the next ten to fifteen years. Additions were made at the third conference in Helsinki in 1997. Therefore, these corridors are sometimes referred to as the "Crete corridors" or "Helsinki corridors", regardless of their geographical locations.
