Þórshöfn Airport ( ) is an airport located in Þórshöfn, a village in northeast Iceland. It is also referred to as Thorshofn Airport in many English-language sources. Overview Þórshöfn Airport was previously located about 4.8 km to the northeast, at , near Sauðanes, and had the ICAO code BITH (but the same IATA code – THO). It had a slightly shorter runway with a gravel surface, which has since been closed. The airport has a very small terminal building of around . Domestic airports do not need security checks in Iceland, and the 19-seat Twin Otter aircraft used does not need large terminals. Norlandair
Norlandair is an Icelandic airline. It was founded on 1 June 2008 when it acquired the De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, Twin Otter flight operation of Icelandair. It operates domestic Scheduled air carriers, scheduled services within Iceland, air charter as well as limited international scheduled services to Greenland. History The company traces its roots to a company with the same name, founded in 1974, when a few aviation professionals acquired North Air, based in Akureyri. The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota ( RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II. Akureyri Airport ( , regionally also ) is an international airport in Akureyri, Iceland, south of the town centre. Icelandair and Norlandair link the airport with several domestic locations. The airlines easyJet, Edelweiss Air and Transavia serve seasonal international destinations. History Scheduled air travel to Akureyri started in 1928 when Flugfélag Íslands ("Airline of Iceland") began flying on seaplanes to Reykjavík, landing on the fjord of Eyjafjörður near downtown Akureyri. De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter
The de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter is a Canadian STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) utility aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada in the mid-1960s and still in production today. Built by De Havilland Canada from 1965 to 1988, Viking Air purchased the type certificate and restarted production in 2008, before re-adopting the DHC name in 2022. In 2023, DHC started production of the 300-G, an upgraded version of the Series 400 with Garmin avionics. Þórshöfn
Þórshöfn () or Thorshofn is a small fishing village in northeast Iceland, located on the northern coast of the Langanes peninsula on the Þistilfjörður bay. The village has a population of 380 people. It is the administrative centre of Langanesbyggð municipality and formerly of the neighbouring Svalbarðshreppur municipality until the two merged. Langanes
Langanes () is a peninsula in northeast Iceland. The name literally means "long peninsula". It is long from southwest to northeast, ending in a thin strip of land called Fontur (regionally also ) where there is also a suggestive lighthouse called Langanesviti . It is bounded by Þistilfjörður to the northwest and Bakkaflói to the southeast, while the terrain inland reaches elevations of 200–450 metres (600–1200 feet).
