Útlaginn (The Outlaw)
''Outlaw: The Saga of Gisli'' () is a 1981 Icelandic film adaptation of the ''Gísla saga'', the story of a blood feud set in 10th-century Iceland. It was directed by Ágúst Guðmundsson. The film was released on 17 February 1984 to critical acclaim in Sweden, and then in West Germany. Written and directed by Ágúst Guðmundsson, the theatrical version of the Saga of Gisli Sursson was praised as a culturally accurate representation of the time period. Ágúst Guðmundsson
Ágúst Guðmundsson (born 29 June 1947) is an Icelandic film director and screenwriter. He studied French, Icelandic in Reykjavík and filmmaking at the National Film School in London. He has made many popular Icelandic films that have also been translated into other languages. His 1998 film '' The Dance'' was entered into the 21st Moscow International Film Festival where he won the Silver St. George for Best Director. He is currently director of BÍL, The Federation of Icelandic Artists. List Of Submissions To The 54th Academy Awards For Best Foreign Language Film
This is a list of submissions to the 54th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 54th Academy Awards, twenty-five films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The five nominated films came from Italy, Japan, Poland and Switzerland.
