Úrvalsdeild kvenna (English: Women's Premier League), known as Bónus deild kvenna for sponsorship reasons, is the highest basketball competition among women's clubs in Iceland. It is administered by the Körfuknattleikssamband Íslands, Icelandic Basketball Federation. It was founded in 1952 and, until 2007, it was known as 1. deild kvenna (English: Women's First division). Birna Ingibjörg Valgardsdóttir (born 19 January 1976) is an Icelandic former basketball player who won eight Icelandic championships, in a record twelve trips to the national finals, and five Icelandic Cups. She was named the Icelandic Female Basketball Player of the Year in 2002 and 2004. Birna was the second player to break the 5000 points barrier in Úrvalsdeild kvenna and is its all-time leading scorer. Guðrún Gróa Þorsteinsdóttir (born 21 January 1989) is an Icelandic basketball player and a former power lifter. She won the Icelandic basketball championship two times, in 2010 and 2014, and the Icelandic Basketball Cup once. She was one of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna premier defenders during her career, being named the Úrvalsdeild Defensive Player of the Year four times. Playing career Guðrún started her senior career with KR in 2006 and was a key player in the team's 2010 championship run. She left KR after the 2010-2011 season to focus on her powerlifting career.
