Úrvalsdeild Karla (basketball)
Úrvalsdeild karla (English: Men's Premier League), also known as Bónus deild karla for sponsorship reasons, is the highest men's professional basketball competition among clubs in Iceland, where play determines the national champion. It is organized by the Icelandic Basketball Federation (). The season consists of a home-and-away schedule of 22 games, followed by an eight-team playoff round. Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals series are best-of-five. Tómas Holton
Tómas Albert Tómasson Holton (born 8 July 1964) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. In 1983, he won the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup, Icelandic Cup as a member of Valur men's basketball, Valur. Playing the point guard position, he led the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla in assists in 1995 and 2000. Playing career Club career Tómas started his senior team career with Valur men's basketball, Valur during the 1981-82 season and with them won the national championship and Iceland Cup in 1983. In 1989, he left the team to play for Budapesti Honvéd SE (men's basketball), Budapesti Honvéd in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A (men's basketball), Hungary Basketball League. Birgir Mikaelsson
Birgir Mikaelsson (born 27 September 1965) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of Icelandic national team. In 1990, he won the national championships with KR. During his career, he played in four different decades. Early life Birgir was born in Akureyri, Iceland, before moving with his family to the capital city of Reykjavík at a young age. There he started playing basketball along with football and handball. Pétur Guðmundsson (basketball)
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson (born 30 October 1958) is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. Standing , weighing and playing the center (basketball), center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Often described as the greatest Icelandic basketball player of all time, he was named the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century, Icelandic Basketball Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association in 2001, and in 2015, he was inducted in to the ÍSÍ Hall of Fame, National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame. Magnús Matthíasson
Magnús Helgi Matthíasson (born 25 February 1967) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national team. He played college basketball for Rice University. Club career After finishing his studies in the United States, Matthías returned to Iceland to play for Valur. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year in 1991 after finishing fourth in scoring in the league. In 1992, he helped Valur reach the Úrvalsdeild finals where the team lost to Njarðvík. National team career Magnús played 57 games for the Icelandic national team from 1987 to 1994. Falur Harðarson
Falur Jóhann Harðarson (born 15 October 1968) is an Icelandic basketball coach and a former player. He spent most of his career with Keflavík where he won five national championships, the last one as a player-coach, and 3 national cups. A five time Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First Team selection, he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 1999. Falur started his coaching career with Keflavík women's team and led them to the national championship in 1990. Páll Hermann Kolbeinsson (born 17 April 1964) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach, and a former member of the Iceland men's national basketball team, Icelandic national team. He was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year and Úrvalsdeild karla Player of the Year, Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year in 1990, the same year he won the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic championship with KR men's basketball, KR. Guðjón Skúlason
Guðjón Skúlason (born 1 January 1967) is an Icelandic retired basketball player and coach and a former member of Icelandic national team. He played nineteen seasons in the Úrvalsdeild karla, winning the Icelandic championship six times with Keflavík. He was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year in 1997.
