Øyvind Berg (lyric Poet)
Øyvind Berg (born 14 January 1959 is a Norwegian lyric poet, playwright, actor and translator. Berg was born in Oslo. He studied to the intermediate levelThe Intermediate status requires that the student have taken 90 credits in a particular subject. This corresponds to roughly 1.5 years of study for that subject. in philosophy, literature and egyptology at the University of Bergen and the University of Tromsø. He was a member of the Norwegian Authors' Union from 1987 to 1988 and 1993 to 1996. He was selected to serve on the Arts Council Norway's appeal committee for recognition of new Norwegian literature. In 1997, he was artistic director for Norwegian Festival of Literature. Berg's poetry has been translated into German, English and Danish. Lyric Poet
Modern lyric poetry is a formal type of poetry which expresses personal emotions or feelings, typically spoken in the first person. The term for both modern lyric poetry and modern song lyrics derives from a form of Ancient Greek literature, the Greek lyric, which was defined by its musical accompaniment, usually on an instrument known as a kithara, a seven-stringed lyre (hence "lyric"). These three are not equivalent, though song lyrics ''are'' often in the lyric mode and Ancient Greek lyric poetry ''was'' principally chanted verse. The term owes its importance in literary theory to the division developed by Aristotle among three broad categories of poetry: lyrical, dramatic, and epic. The Halldis Moren Vesaas Prize ()Halldis Moren Vesaas (1907—1995) was a Norwegian author, poet and translator. is a Norwegian literary prize which is awarded annually to a Norwegian for lyric or other poetry, which through the quality and magnitude of the work has established a significant voice in Norwegian poetry. The prize was established by the publisher Olaf Norlis Bokhandel upon Halldis Moren Vesaas' death in 1995. The jury consists of a manager from Norlis, the literary director from another publisher and the current head of the Norwegian Writers' Center. The prize has not been awarded since 2007.
