Øystein Gullvåg Holter
Øystein Gullvåg Holter (born 7 February 1952) is a Norwegian sociologist and expert on men's studies. Son of Harriet Holter. He is Professor of men's studies at the University of Oslo, the first to be appointed to such a chair in Norway. He worked as a researcher at the Work Research Institute from 1980 to 2006, and at the Nordic Gender Institute from 2006 to 2008. Men's Studies
Men's studies is an interdisciplinary academic field devoted to topics concerning men, masculinity, gender, culture, politics and sexuality. It academically examines what it means to be a man in contemporary society. Origins Sociologists and psychologists in the Nordic countries such as Norwegians Erik Grønseth and Per Olav Tiller were early pioneers of men's studies as a research field; Grønseth and Tiller's classic study of father absence in sailor families and its impact on children's personality development in the 1950s is often regarded as the starting point of men's studies in the Nordic countries. Harriet Holter
Harriet Holter (11 April 1922 – 18 December 1997) was a Norwegian social psychologist. Career She graduated with the cand.oecon. degree in 1946, and was eventually hired as a research fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Social Research, which was established in 1950. Despite having a degree in economics, the prospect of making an academic career in this field became unsettling for Holter. In her early career, she researched the working life. After analyses of the role of women in the workforce, she began concentrating more on women's studies in general. As she took the dr.philos. degree in 1970 on the thesis ''Sex Roles and Social Structure'' (which was also selected for the Norwegian Sociology Canon in 2009–2011), Holter became a pioneer in this field in the Nordic countries. The University of Oslo (; ) is a public university, public research university located in Oslo, Norway. Nordic Gender Institute
The Nordic Gender Institute (NIKK) (''Norwegian: Nordisk institutt for kunnskap om kjønn''), previously ''Nordic Institute for Women's Studies and Gender Research'', was a transnational resource and information centre for gender research and gender equality in the Nordic countries. It was established in 1995 by the Nordic Council of Ministers and closed down in 2011. The Institute aimed at constituting a bridge between Nordic gender research and equality politics. Astrid Sverresdotter Dypvik
Astrid Sverresdotter Dypvik (born October 19, 1977) is a Norwegian journalist and historian, and was the head of ''Norsk MÃ¥lungdom'', the youth branch of the Language Organisation of Norway, from 2000 to 2002. Dypvik was born in Lensvik in Agdenes Municipality. She received a master's degree in history from the University of Oslo with a thesis on German postwar history. As a journalist, she has written for the newspapers ''Morgenbladet'' and ''Klassekampen'', among others, and served as op-ed and debate editor for ''Klassekampen''. She is employed at the newspaper '' Nationen''. In addition, she has served as an editorial board member for the historical journal '' Fortid''. The Research Council (also the Research Council of Norway; ) is a Norwegian government agency that funds research and innovation projects.
