Øya is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated the borough of Midtbyen in Trondheim Municipality, just east of Elgeseter. The neighborhood consists of a peninsula formed by the river Nidelva. The community is located close to the city center and is linked to the Midtbyen neighborhood by the Elgeseter Bridge and foot bridges at Øya stadion and Nidareid. Øya Stadion
Øya stadion, also known as Trondheim stadion, is an athletics facility in Nidarø, Trondheim, Norway. The field was established as "Øen stadion" in 1900 as a combined athletics field and skating rink. Skating From the opening in 1900 up until the war, Øen stadion in Trondheim was one of Norway's main facilities for speed skating, where Trondhjems Skøiteklub was the coordinator of a series of championships. The first large event at Øya was the European championship in 1901, where Kristiania-born skater Rudolf Gundersen won. In 1907, the first world championship was arranged at Øya, and would also hold the event in 1911, 1926, and 1933. Øya stadion would also later hold another European championship in 1930. After the war there were only two more championships held at Øya, the unofficial European championship in 1946, and a women's world championship in 1966. Trondheim Spektrum (formerly Nidarøhallen) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Trondheim, Norway. It is located on the peninsula of Øya next to the Nidelven river. It is the home arena for men's basketball team Nidaros Jets and the alternate arena for Kolstad Håndball when playing EHF Champions League matches. Nidelva is a river in Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The name of the long river translates to "the River Nid" since the suffix ''elva'' is the Norwegian language, Norwegian word for "the river". Midtbyen is a borough of the city of Trondheim in Trondheim Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough comprises much of the city centre of downtown Trondheim plus part of the Bymarka rural areas to the west. Elgeseter is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the western part of the borough of Lerkendal in Trondheim Municipality. It is south and east of the river Nidelva, south of the neighborhoods of Midtbyen and Øya, west of Singsaker and north of Nardo. The name comes from ''Helgeseter'', the name of Helgeseter Priory, an Augustinian abbey located at Elgeseter during the Middle Ages. Elgeseter Bridge
Elgeseter Bridge () is a bridge in the city and municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the European route E6 highway which passes over the ''Nidelva'' river and connects Prinsens street in the Midtbyen area of Trondheim with Elgeseter street in the Elgeseter area of Trondheim in the south. The Trondheim city council decided on 17 March 1949 that the bridge should be built. Elgeseter bridge was opened in 1951 after a construction period of 2 years.
