Øivind Storm Bjerke
Øivind Storm Bjerke (born 11 March 1953) is a Norwegian art historian. He was born in Tønsberg. From 1984 to 1989 he worked as intendant of the art society Trondhjems Kunstforening and Trondheim Kunstmuseum. He chaired the organization in 1987. From 1989 to 1997 he was amanuensis at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, and from 1997 to 2002 he was appointed director of the Preus Museum, the national museum for photography in Horten. He was appointed professor of art history at the University of Oslo in 2002. His books include treatments of Matthias Stoltenberg (thesis from 1983), Harald Sohlberg (1991), Aase Texmon Rygh (1992), Leonard Rickhard (1995), Håkon Bleken (1997), Harald Kihle (2005), and Arne Ekeland (2008). Tønsberg
Tønsberg (), historically Tunsberg, is a List of towns and cities in Norway, city in Tønsberg Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. It is located about south-southwest of the capital city of Oslo on the western coast of the Oslofjord near its mouth onto the Skagerrak. The city is the most populous metropolis in Vestfold county. Tønsberg also serves as the administrative centre for Vestfold county and the seat of the County governor (Norway), County Governor of Vestfold og Telemark. Leonard Rickhard (12 May 1945 – 7 January 2024) was a Norwegian painter. Personal life Rickhard was born in Tvedestrand on 12 May 1945, a son of Birgit Andreassen and Leif Rickhard.. He was married to Berit Sundby. Career Rickhard studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1966 to 1967, and at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1967 to 1971. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' (, abbreviated ''SNL'') is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. It has several subdivisions, including the Norsk biografisk leksikon. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with up to 3.5 million unique visitors per month. Arne Ekeland
Arne Ekeland (14 August 1908 – 28 February 1994) was a Norwegian painter. He was born in Eidsvoll. Among his works are ''Ser vi står på trappene'' from 1939, ''De siste skudd'' from 1940, and ''Kampen'' from 1943, all located at the National Gallery in Oslo. Harald Kihle
Harald Kihle (3 July 1905 – 2 August 1997) was a Norwegian painter and illustrator. He is particularly known for his pictures with motifs from Telemark. Personal life Kihle was born in Horten; the son of Anton Jørgensen and Mina Gunelia Halvorsdatter Leikås. In 1930 he married Ingrid Kirsten Olsen. From the 1950s the family settled in the artists' community at Ekely in Oslo. He died in Oslo in 1997, 92 years old. Career Kihle studied at the Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole from 1926 to 1929, and later with Henrik Sørensen, Axel Revold, Per Krohg and Marcel Gromaire. He is particularly known for his motifs from Telemark. He was fascinated by the nature and folk culture of Telemark, arts, crafts, songs and music, and the farmers' way of life. Håkon Bleken
Håkon Ingvald Bleken (9 January 1929 – 21 January 2025) was a Norwegian painter and graphic artist. Bleken is represented in several museums in Norway, including the National Museum in Oslo and art museums in Trondheim and Bergen. He illustrated a number of books, and contributed to decoration of churches and public buildings. He was decorated Commander of the Order of St. Olav. Background Bleken was born in Trondheim on 9 January 1929, a son of architect Haakon Bleken and Brynhild Ribsskog. He died in Trondheim on 21 January 2025, at the age of 96. Aase Texmon Rygh
Aase Texmon Rygh, (April 13, 1925 – May 21, 2019) was a Norwegian sculptor working in the modernist style. Early life and education Aase Texmon Rygh was born in Troms County, Norway. She studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1944 until 1946. Two years later, she studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, under Einar Utzon-Frank, for one year. In 1950, she visited Paris, where she visited the Louvre. The visit would be pivotal in shaping her career as a professional artist. Career Texmon Rygh primarily exhibited in Norway, with a retrospective exhibition at the Henie-Onstad Art Centre in 1992. Harald Sohlberg
Harald Oskar Sohlberg (29 November 1869 – 19 June 1935) was a Norwegian Neo-romantic painter. Biography Sohlberg attended the Royal School of Art and Design of Christiania. He later trained under the graphic artist and painter Johan Nordhagen. Sohlberg attended the art school of Kristian Zahrtmann. He also studied as a pupil of Erik Werenskiold, Eilif Peterssen and Harriet Backer. He is particularly known for his depictions of the Rondane mountains and the town of Røros. Perhaps his most widely recognized paintings, in several variations, is '' Winter's Night in Rondane'', presently featured at the National Gallery (''Nasjonalgalleriet'').
