The Austrian Ice Hockey Association (, ÖEHV) is an association of Austrian sports clubs with ice hockey activities. The highest-level hockey league in Austria is the Austrian Hockey League which is also called Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Austria
Austria, formally the Republic of Austria, is a landlocked country in Central Europe, lying in the Eastern Alps. Ice hockey (or simply hockey in North America) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an Ice rink, ice skating rink with Ice hockey rink, lines and markings specific to the sport. Austrian Hockey League
The ICE Hockey League (International Central European Hockey League, ICEHL), known as the win2day ICE Hockey League for sponsorship reasons, is a Central European hockey league that also serves as the top-tier ice hockey league in Austria. It currently features additional teams from Hungary, Italy, and Slovenia. The league was known as the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga (EBEL) from 2003 until 2020 and as the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League during the 2021–22 season. Until 2005–06, the league consisted solely of Austrian teams. Walter Wasservogel
Walter Wasservogel (20 February 1919 – 14 April 1993) was an Austrian ice hockey administrator. He served as president of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association and later as the general secretary of the International Ice Hockey Federation. He received the Olympic Order and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. Austrian career Wasservogel was born 20 February 1919 in Austria, and won four national championships playing ice hockey there. He later joined the Austrian Ice Hockey Association in 1947, and served as its president from 1962 to 1977. He oversaw the organization of international ice hockey events hosted in Austria, which included the 1964 Winter Olympics, the 1967 World Ice Hockey Championships, the 1976 Winter Olympics and the 1977 World Ice Hockey Championships. Hans Dobida
Hans Dobida (13 May 1929 – 16 January 2025) was an Austrian ice hockey administrator. Playing ice hockey and on the Austria men's national handball team in early life, he had a lengthy involvement with ATSE Graz while serving as president of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association. He helped Austria organize hosting ice hockey at the Olympic Games and the Ice Hockey World Championships; and as a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) council, oversaw the IIHF Continental Cup, and sat on the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship committee. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame, the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame, and the Slovenian Hockey Hall of Fame, and received the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. Rita Hrbacek
Rita Hrbacek is an Austrian retired ice hockey administrator. She joined the Austrian Ice Hockey Association in 1964 working as a secretary until 1976. She then transferred to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) working as a secretary until 1983. She returned to the Austrian Ice Hockey Association as its secretary general in 1989. She retired her position on 31 May 2004 after 40 years of service to ice hockey, and was succeeded by Christian Hartl as the secretary general. Austria Men's National Junior Ice Hockey Team
The Austrian men's national under 20 ice hockey team is the national under-20 ice hockey team in Austria. The team represents Austria at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Junior Championship. History Austria made its first Pool A appearance in 1981, however, after being relegated the team spent several years competing in either Pool B or Pool C. In 2000, the Austrians defeated Slovenia 6–2 to advance out of Pool C and into Division I for the 2001 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Austria finally qualified for the top level for 2004, by defeating Norway 6–4 in their final contest. Austria however was relegated back to Division I for 2005. The team has been unable to maintain a steady presence as part of the Top Division, their most recent appearance being in 2010.
