Österlen
Österlen ()) is a region in the southeast of the Swedish province of Scania (Skåne). Historically, the region was shared between the counties of Kristianstad County, Kristianstad and Malmöhus County, Malmöhus for a small part in the southwest, until Skåne County was created in 1997. Österlen includes the municipalities of Simrishamn Municipality, Simrishamn and Tomelilla Municipality, Tomelilla and a rural part of Ystad Municipality, Ystad. The towns of Simrishamn and Tomelilla are of very similar sizes, but the Simrishamn municipal population is somewhat larger. Österlen has approximately in between 35 000 to 40 000 permanent inhabitants but plenty of seasonal vacation homes means that the population soars during summer months. The area is a tourist destination known for its natural environment, historic buildings, fishing hamlets, small towns and farmland.

Scania ( ), also known by its native name of Skåne (), is the southernmost of the historical provinces of Sweden, provinces () of Sweden. Simrishamn Municipality () is a Municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Skåne County in southern Sweden. Its seat is located in the city Simrishamn. The creation of the present municipality took place during the last of the two nationwide municipal reforms carried out in Sweden during the second half of the 20th century. In 1969 a number of surrounding rural municipalities were merged with the ''City of Simrishamn''. The enlarged city became a municipality of unitary type in 1971 and in 1974 more territory was added. Simrishamn is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Simrishamn Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 6,527 inhabitants in 2010. "Om himlen och Österlen" (Swedish for: ''About Heaven and Österlen'') is a popular song composed by Scanian Swedish singer-songwriter Michael Saxell from Ystad in 1991. The lyrics are largely autobiographical; the story of a man who moved to North America from the Österlen region in southeastern Scania at a young age and returned to his homeland later in life. Michael Saxell lived in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada from 1975 to 1991. Skillinge
Skillinge is a locality situated in Simrishamn Municipality, in Österlen, Skåne County, Sweden, with 859 inhabitants in 2010. The village Skillinge has a combined marina and a fishing port which is the closest one to the north of the treacherous Sandhammaren peninsula. In Skillinge harbor there is a shipyard and a SSRS rescue station equipped with the class nameing rescue vessel Rescue Gad Rausing carrying a Rescuerunner. The harbor is also the home port of the k-marked schooner Klara Marie. In the town's former school building from 1858 is the Skillinge maritime museum. Skillinge theatre is well established and widely known for its plays. Climate Skillinge has a maritime climate with a moderated coastline and a slightly warmer interior during summers. Tomelilla Municipality () is a municipality in Skåne County in southern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town Tomelilla. The municipality was formed through a series of amalgamations taking place in 1952, 1969 and 1971. The number of pre-1952 units making up the present municipality is twenty. Ystad () is a town and the seat of Ystad Municipality, in Scania County, Sweden. Ystad had 18,350 inhabitants in 2010. Kivik
Kivik () is a locality in Simrishamn Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 960 inhabitants in 2010. It is in a part of Scania (Skåne) called Österlen. Fritiof Nilsson Piraten ("the Pirate") (4 December 1895 in Vollsjö – 31 January 1972 in Malmö), born Nils Fritiof Adam Nilsson was a Swedish author and lawyer, from the south-most province SkÃ¥ne, which plays an important role in many of his books. Educated as a lawyer at Lund he left a successful practice in 1932 to write, and that same year published his debut, ''Bombi Bitt och jag'' ("Bombi Bitt and me"), a Scanian Tom Sawyer-like story of sorts. ''Bombi Bitt'' is what he is most remembered for; it was made into both a movie in 1936, and a TV-series in 1968, the series starring Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd of present Hollywood-fame in the lead role as Bombi Bitt, with Piraten himself as the narrator.
