Örebro
Örebro ( ; ) is the seventh-largest city in Sweden, the seat of Örebro Municipality, and capital of Örebro County. It is situated by the Närke Plain, near the lake Hjälmaren, a few kilometers inland along the small river Svartån, and has a population of approximately 126,000 in the city proper. It is one of the largest inland hubs of the country, and a major logistic and commercial operating site. Örebro is home to Örebro University, a major university hospital, a medieval castle, the water park Gustavsvik as well as several large shopping malls and the Oset and Rynningeviken Nature Reserve adjacent to lake Hjälmaren. Örebro is a trade and logistics city with a strategic location 200 km from Stockholm, 330 km from Oslo and 280 km from Gothenburg. Örebro University
Örebro University () is a public university in Örebro, Sweden. The university has its roots in the Örebro campus of Uppsala University, and became an independent state university college in 1977, Örebro University College (''Högskolan i Örebro''). The university college also incorporated three other existing educational institutions in Örebro: the teaching seminar, the sports college (founded in 1966) and the social work college (founded 1967). Örebro University College was granted the privileges of a university by the Government of Sweden in 1999, becoming the 12th university in Sweden. On 30 March 2010 the university was granted the right to award medical degrees in collaboration with Örebro University Hospital, making it the 7th medical school in Sweden. Örebro County
Örebro County () is a county or '' län'' in central Sweden. It borders the counties of Västra Götaland, Värmland, Dalarna, Västmanland, Södermanland and Östergötland. Örebro Municipality () is a municipality in Örebro County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Örebro. The municipality was created from the ''City of Örebro'' and surrounding rural municipalities in 1971 and with some areas added in 1974 it had an area of 1,840 km2. In 1995 the municipality was split in two when Lekeberg Municipality was recreated in its boundaries from 1967. Örebro University Hospital
Örebro University Hospital (, ) is a university hospital in Örebro, Sweden. The hospital is operated by Örebro County Council and took its current name in 2000, having previously been called Örebro Regional Hospital. The hospital is one of three hospitals within the Örebro County Region, the others being the Karlskoga Hospital and Lindesberg Hospital. Örebro University, which was awarded full university status in 1999, and the County Council have long tried to establish a governmentally funded medical school in Örebro in collaboration with the hospital. On 30 March 2010, the university was granted the right to award medical degrees, making it the 7th medical school in Sweden. Närke () is a Swedish traditional province, or ''landskap'', situated in Svealand in south central Sweden. It is bordered by Västmanland to the north, Södermanland to the east, Östergötland to the southeast, Västergötland to the southwest, and Värmland to the northwest. Närke has a surface area of 4,126 km² and a total population of 208,376. Name The name of the province (Neeric 1165-81) comes from an old word ''när'' (narrow) which refers to the narrow ridge where the church of Norrbyås (Nerboahs 1275) is situated. Örebro Castle
Örebro Castle () is a medieval castle fortification at Svartån in Örebro County, Sweden. It was expanded during the reign of the royal family Vasa (House of Vasa) and finally rebuilt about 1900. Some of the rooms are used as classrooms for pupils from Karolinska gymnasiet. History The castle lies on an island in the river Svartån. The name of Örebro comes from the small stones ("ör") that the river transports. The second part of the word comes from the bridge ("bro") . The oldest part of the castle, a defence tower, was erected in the latter half of the 13th century. It was probably built during the reign of King Magnus IV of Sweden (1316–1374). In 1364, Albrecht von Mecklenburg (ca 1340–1412) captured a fortress in Örebro. That was probably a predecessor of today's castle, which was built on the small island within the Svartå river. Lekeberg Municipality
Lekeberg Municipality () is a municipality in Örebro County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Fjugesta, with around 2,000 inhabitants. Lekeberg was first formed as a municipality in connection with the local government reform of 1952 by the amalgamation of five smaller units. In 1967 two more parishes were added. The next reform of 1971 placed the area within Örebro Municipality. It was re-established in 1995 within its 1967 borders. Gustavsvik
Gustavsvik is a major recreational facility in the town of Örebro which was built in 1963 and it includes the largest water park in Northern Europe. Gustavsvik is one of Sweden’s most visited tourist and leisure facilities. In 2012, it had around 100,000 visitors. Northern Europe’s largest indoor swimming facility includes among other things a 50-metre long swimming pool with a diving tower and sunbeds, an adventure pool area with masses of attractions, a relaxation area, and a fitness centre with a gym and sunbeds. There are outdoor swimming pools outside, a water playground, a water slide, and large green areas suitable for sunbathing and other activities. The facility is named after the owner of the brickyard which used to occupy the area where it is now situated. An open-air pool was built in 1935; the first temperate indoor pool was built in 1963.
