Ó Brolaigh is a Gaelic-Irish surname. Background The sept of O Brolaigh were a tributary clan of the Clan hAonghusa federation, originally from the Bredach in Inishowen, descended of Angus mac Eoghan mac Niall of the Nine Hostages. One branch of this sept were apparently erenaghs of Tech na Coimairce near Castlefinn, Donegal and Clonleigh, Donegal and Ulster. There were O Brolaighs in Leinster at the time of St. Brigit, who mentions the kindness shown her by a "gentleman of the O Brolaigh." Inishowen () is a peninsula in the north of County Donegal in Ireland. Inishowen is the largest peninsula on the island of Ireland. The ''Annals of the Kingdom of Ireland'' () or the ''Annals of the Four Masters'' () are chronicles of Middle Ages, medieval Irish history. Joe Brolly
Joe Brolly (born Padraig Joseph Brolly; 25 June 1969) is an Irish Gaelic football analyst, coach, selector, former player and barrister who played at senior level for the Derry county team. He is from Dungiven. Brolly played for Derry in the 1990s and early 2000s and was part of the county's only All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning side in 1993. He also won two Ulster Senior Football Championships and four National League titles. Brolly played club football for St Canice's Dungiven for most of his career, before transferring to St Brigid's GAC in Belfast. He usually played as right corner forward and was renowned for his accurate point-taking, goal-scoring ability, pace and ability to take on opponents. Shane Brolly is a Northern Irish actor, writer, and director known for his role as Kraven in the ''Underworld'' franchise. Life and career Brolly was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and comes from a family of Northern Irish actors, although he has done most of his film work in the United States. Irish clans are traditional kinship groups sharing a common surname and heritage and existing in a lineage-based society, originating prior to the 17th century.
