Helgi Jónas Guðfinnsson
Helgi Jónas Guðfinnsson (born 18 April 1976) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former professional player. He spent the majority of his career with Grindavík where he won the Icelandic championship in 1996 and the Icelandic Cup in 1995, 1998 and 2006. He was twice named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year and once the Icelandic Basketball Men's Player of the Year. After his playing career came to an end, Helgi went into coaching and led Grindavík to the Icelandic Cup in 2011 and the national championship in 2012. Early life Helgi Jónas grew up Neskaupsstaður where he trained skiing and football in his youth. At the age of 11, he moved with his family to Grindavík where he started playing basketball. Basketball Playing career After playing for Grindavík's junior teams, Helgi broke into the senior team during the 1992–1993 season, averaging 6.9 points in 23 games and being named the Úrvalsdeild Young Player of the Year. Guðmundur Bragason
Guðmundur Bragason (born 21 April 1967) is a former Icelandic professional basketball player and coach. He spent most of his career with Grindavík in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild, winning the national championship there in 1996. Icelandic National Team Guðmundur is the highest capped player in the Icelandic national basketball team history, playing 164 games between 1987 and 2003. Grindavík
Grindavík () is a fishing town in the Southern Peninsula district of Iceland, not far from Þorbjörn, a tuya (a type of flat-topped, steep-sided volcano). It is one of the few towns with a harbour on this coast. Most of the inhabitants work in the fishing industry. The Blue Lagoon, Grindavík's première attraction, is located from the town. In November 2023, in the midst of escalating and severe seismic activity, a state of emergency was declared and the town evacuated. On 18 December 2023, at around 22:00 local time ( GMT), the Sundhnúkur volcano erupted. The eruption was close to Hagafell, about northeast of Grindavík. A risk was also posed to Svartsengi Power Station. Fountains of lava, up to high, could be seen from Iceland's capital, Reykjavík. Authorities said they were highly prepared. The volcano erupted again on 8 February, for the third time since December, this time at the edge of the town, and the lava flow destroyed a few buildings and infrastructure. ...
