The station was opened in 1843 and is on the Paris–Bordeaux railway and Étampes–Beaune-la-Rolande railway. The station is served by Paris' express suburban rail system, the RER C, RER. The train services are operated by SNCF. Étampes () is a Communes of France, commune in the functional area (France), metropolitan area of Paris, France. It is located south-southwest from the Kilometre zero#France, center of Paris (as the crow flies). Étampes is a Subprefectures in France, sub-prefecture of the Essonne Departments of France, department. Étampes, together with the neighboring communes of Morigny-Champigny and Brières-les-Scellés, form an urban unit, urban area of 30,881 inhabitants (2018). This urban area is a "satellite city" of Paris. History Étampes () existed at the beginning of the 7th century and in the early Middle Ages belonged to the crown domain. During the Middle Ages it was the scene of several councils, the most notable of which took place in 1130 and resulted in the recognition of Pope Innocent II, Innocent II as the legitimate pope.
