Édouard Joseph Dantan
Édouard Joseph Dantan (26 August 1848 – 7 July 1897) was a French painter in the classical tradition. He was widely recognized and successful, even receiving grudging respect from a contemporary Modernist painter and critic Walter Sickert. Biography Édouard Joseph Dantan was born on 26 August 1848 in Paris. His grandfather, who had fought in the Napoleonic Wars, was a wood sculptor. His father, Antoine Laurent Dantan, and uncle, Jean-Pierre Dantan, were both well-known sculptors. Dantan was a pupil of Isidore Pils and Henri Lehmann at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. At the age of nineteen he won a commission for a large mural painting of ''The Holy Trinity'' for the Hospice Brezin at Marne (Seine-et-Oise). Dantan's first exhibit at the Paris Salon (Paris), Salon was ''An Episode in the Destruction of Pompeii'' in 1869. Villerville () is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. ''Agostina Segatori Sitting in the Café du Tambourin'' was painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1887. Agostina Segatori owned the Café du Tambourin that Van Gogh knew intimately. It was a gathering spot for Parisian artists, a place where their work was exhibited. Van Gogh, unable to pay in cash for his meals, exchanged paintings for his fare. The paintings then adorned the restaurant. He held a special exhibit of Japonaiserie (Van Gogh), his Japanese prints in the café as well. Pierre Paul Prud'hon
Pierre-Paul Prud'hon (, 4 April 1758 – 16 February 16, 1823) was a French Romantic painter and draughtsman best known for his allegorical paintings and portraits such as '' Madame Georges Anthony and Her Two Sons'' (1796). He painted a portrait of each of Napoleon's two wives. He was an early influence on Théodore Géricault and Constance Mayer, who may have influenced him as well, due to their intimate working relationship. The Fine Arts Museum of Nantes (French: Musée d'Arts de Nantes), along with 14 other provincial museums, was created, by consular decree on 14 Fructidor in year IX (31 August 1801). Walter Richard Sickert (31 May 1860 – 22 January 1942) was a German-born British painter and printmaker who was a member of the Camden Town Group of Post-Impressionist artists in early 20th-century London. He was an important influence on distinctively British styles of avant-garde art in the mid and late 20th century. Sickert was a cosmopolitan and an eccentric who often favoured ordinary people and urban scenes as his subjects.
