Ævar Örn Jósepsson
Ævar Örn Jósepsson (born 25 August 1963 in Hafnarfjörður) is an Icelandic journalist, translator, and author. Early life Ævar is the youngest of four siblings. He grew up in Garðabær, Reykjavík, and in Hafnarfjörður. He moved to Akranes aged 16. From 1981-1982 he was an exchange student in Belgium. He attended the University of Stirling in Scotland, UK, from 1986-1987 and studied journalism, political science and philosophy. He then attended Albert-Ludwigs Universität in Freiburg, Germany, becoming Magister Artium of philosophy and English literature in 1994. Career Ævar initially worked as a fisherman, then as from 1984-1986 as a bank clerk for Landsbanki Íslands. He started doing programs for television and radio, working at RÚV radio since 1995. Hafnarfjörður
Hafnarfjörður, officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður, is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region (Iceland), Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. At about 31,500 inhabitants, Hafnarfjörður is the third-most populous city in Iceland after Reykjavík and Kópavogur. ''DV'' (''Dagblaðið Vísir'') is an online newspaper in Iceland published by Torg ehf. It came into existence as a daily newspaper in 1981 when two formerly independent newspapers, Vísir and Dagblaðið, merged. Early on it was one of the largest newspapers in Iceland and at one point had a 64% readership in Iceland. In the 1990s its readership started to dwindle and in 2003 its publisher was declared bankrupt. It was resurrected a week later by the publisher of Fréttablaðið. ''Land tækifæranna'' () is a 2008 crime fiction novel by Ævar Örn Jósepsson. The backdrop for the events was the 2008 Icelandic financial crisis, with Ævar Örn rewriting parts of the novel just before publication to respond to the unfolding political situation in Iceland. It won the Blóðdropinn award and was thus nominated for the Glass Key Award. Published in Reykjavik by Uppheimar, 2008, . It is the author's fifth crime novel with the same characters, and received positive reviews. Garðabær () is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. History Garðabær is a growing town in the Capital Region. It is the fifth largest municipality in Iceland with a population of 20,116 (1 January 2025). The site of Garðabær has been inhabited since Iceland was first settled in the 9th century. Landnámabók, the Book of Settlement, tells of two farms on the site of Garðabær: Vífilsstaðir and Skúlastaðir.
