Ævangelist are an American death metal/black metal band that integrates avant-garde and experimental elements into their music. The band is primarily composed of Ascaris and Matron Thorn, though additional musicians take on drum and guitar duties for live performances. The band was formed in 2010 by Ascaris and Matron Thorn and they have released four full-length albums and five EPs to date. History The band was formed in 2010 when, after touring together in different bands, Matron Thorn approached Ascaris about forming a project together. Thorn described that "There was a certain chemistry onstage that suggested something more to our encounter, creatively." Blut Aus Nord (; ) is a French black metal band from Mondeville, Calvados, that has incorporated avant-garde music, avant-garde and Industrial metal, industrial elements in its music. History Vindsval began a solo project, under the name "Vlad", in 1993. He released two demos before changing the project's name in 1994 to Blut aus Nord, before the release of ''Ultima Thulée'' in 1995. Saint Vitus (venue)
Saint Vitus, also called Saint Vitus Bar, was a bar and music venue located in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Opened in April 2011, the venue was known for its heavy metal atmosphere. The magazine ''Kerrang!'' described Saint Vitus as "one of the most important locations to see loud music in the entire world." ''Pitchfork'' named it "The Best Metal Bar in New York City". In February 2024, the New York City Department of Buildings shut down Saint Vitus over multiple violations. In August 2024, Saint Vitus' owners announced that the venue was permanently closed. Corpse Paint
Corpse paint is a style of body painting, used mainly by black metal bands for concerts and band photos. The body painting is used to make the musicians appear inhuman, corpse-like, or demonic, and is perhaps "the most identifiable aspect of the black metal aesthetic." Corpse paint typically involves making the face and neck white (or pale), sometimes with red marks to signify blood or laceration, and making the area around the eyes and mouth black. Musicians will often have a trademark style. Other colors are seldom used, yet there are notable exceptions, such as Attila Csihar's use of neon colors and the bands Satyricon and Dødheimsgard experimenting with color as well. Claustrophobia is a fear of confined spaces.
