Aarhus County or Århus County () is a former county of Denmark ( Danish: '' amt'') on the Jutland peninsula. It was created in 1970 by a merger of three counties: Århus, Randers and Skanderborg. The county was abolished effective 1 January 2007, when almost all of it merged into Region Midtjylland (i.e. ''Region Central Jutland''). Counties Of Denmark
The Counties of Denmark () were former subdivisions of metropolitan Denmark and overseas territories, used primarily for administrative regions, with each county having its own council with substantial powers. Originally there had been twenty-four counties, but the number was reduced to roughly fourteen in 1970 – the number fluctuated slightly over the next three decades. In 2006 there were thirteen traditional counties as well as three municipalities with county status (the island of Bornholm, which was a county from 1660 until 2002, became a ''regional municipality'' with county powers, but only briefly from 2003 until 2006). On 1 January 2007, as a result of the '' strukturreformen'', the counties were abolished and replaced by five larger '' regions'' which, unlike the counties, are not municipalities. Langå Municipality
Until 1 January 2007 Langå municipality was a municipality ( Danish, ''Municipalities of Denmark, kommune'') in Aarhus County on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 133 km2, and had a total population of 8.396 (2005). Its last mayor was Hanne Nielsen, a member of the Social Democrats (Denmark), Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') Politics of Denmark, political party. The main town and site of its municipal council was the town of Langå. Langå municipality ceased to exist due to Municipalities of Denmark#Municipal Reform 2007, ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). Silkeborg Municipality
Silkeborg Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 857.16 km2, and has a population of 101,574 (1. January 2025). Its mayor is Helle Gade, of the party Social Democrats (Denmark). The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Silkeborg. On 1 January 2007 Silkeborg municipality was, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), merged with Gjern, Kjellerup, and Them municipalities to form the new Silkeborg municipality. Samsø Municipality
Samsø Municipality () is a municipality ( Danish: '' kommune'') in Region of Central Denmark. Samsø municipality covers an area of 115 km2 in the Kattegat sea, between the Danish mainland of Jutland and Zealand and comprises the island of Samsø as well as a number of small surrounding islands. The mayor has since 2014 been Marcel Meijer, a member of the Social Democrats (Danish: ''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The seat of the municipal council is the town of Tranebjerg. Ferry services connect the town of Sælvig to the town of Hov in Odder Municipality as well as Aarhus, and the town of Ballen connects to the city of Kalundborg on Zealand. Rønde Municipality
Rønde (or Roende) is a town on the southern part of the peninsula, Djursland in Denmark, Northern Europe, 23 kilometers north-east of the north end of Denmark's second largest city, Aarhus. It is in part a commuter town to Aarhus, with a motorway entering Aarhus from the north. Rønde is located between Aarhus, and Aarhus Airport with a 12 kilometer drive from Rønde to the airport. Odder Municipality () is a municipality (Danish language, Danish: ''Municipalities of Denmark, kommune'') in the Region Midtjylland, Central Denmark Region on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in Central Denmark south of Aarhus. It is a part of the greater Aarhus area. The municipality covers an area of 225.04 km², including the islands of Alrø and Tunø.
