Ã…land Women's Official Football Team
The Åland women's official football team represents Åland in women's association football and is controlled by the Åland Football Association (ÅFF). the team isn't affiliated with FIFA nor UEFA. The team mainly competes in the Island Games. the team was crowned champions winning gold medals three times (Football at the 2007 Island Games – Women's tournament, 2007, Football at the 2009 Island Games – Women's tournament, 2009 and Football at the 2011 Island Games – Women's tournament, 2011). Åland also has a successful women's club football side, Åland United which competes in the Kansallinen Liiga. The Ã…land Football Association () is the governing body of Association football, football in Ã…land. Ã…FF is not a member of UEFA or FIFA, but is a member of the Football Association of Finland and has the status of a Finnish District Football Associations, District Football Association. Ã…FF also runs the Ã…land official football team and Ã…land women's football team. Background Ã…land Football Association was founded in 1943 and was originally called the Ã…lands Bolldistrikt. The Association currently has 12 member associations of which 11 are football clubs and one is the local referee association. They together have about 60 teams covering various ages groups. The number of registered players is currently approaching the 1000 mark.
