Åland Social Democrats
The Åland Social Democrats () is a social-democratic political party on the Åland Islands. In the 2023 parliamentary election, the party won 12.82% of the popular vote and 4 out of 30 seats, a gain of one. The current organisation was founded in 1971, although, there have been worker's associations on Åland since 1906. After the independence of Finland, the Åland Social Democrats were closer to the Swedish Social Democratic Party than the Social Democratic Party of Finland. After the Second World War, the social democrats fought the supporters of the far-left Finnish People's Democratic League for political dominance, which briefly became the largest political movement on the islands. ''Ars'' ( '), or ''Arsim'' (the plural in Hebrew) is an Israeli subculture, and a slang term in Hebrew. Originally used as an ethnic slur referring to Mizrachi Jews, the term has evolved and is now more broadly applied to describe anyone part of a perceived thuggish subculture of machismo. An ''ars'' is often depicted as loud and brash. The stereotype of an ''ars'' typically includes being crude, using vulgar language, hanging out with criminal types, seeking fights, and wearing flashy clothing (e.g. tank tops) and jewelry.
