Åbo Svenska Teater
Åbo Svenska Teater () is a Finland-Swedish theatre in the city of Turku in Finland and the oldest theatre in the country, founded in 1839. The building itself is also the oldest still functioning theatre house in Finland. The name means "The Swedish theatre of Åbo"; ''Åbo'' is the Swedish name of Turku. History Turku was the capital city of Finland during Finland's epoch as a part of Sweden, and Swedish theatre companies visited Finland during the 18th-century, the first of whom was the Stenborg Troupe in 1761 and the company of Carl Seuerling in the 1780s. There where however, no proper theatre building until the '' Bonuviers Teater'' was erected in the 1810s. Pierre Deland
Pierre Joseph Deland (13 December 1805 – 13 November 1862) was a Swedish stage actor and theatre director. He was the director of the Deland Theater Company in 1833-1861, a travelling theater famous in both Sweden and Finland, and as such an influential and well known figure of the stage life of both countries in the mid 19th-century. He was the founder of the ''Dramatiska och musikaliska artisternas pensionsförening'' ('Retirement Fund for Dramatic and Musical Artists') in 1857. August Westermark
August Westermark (5 October 1834 – 15 December 1894) was a Finnish-Swedish stage actor and theatre director. He played an important role in the development of the Finnish language theater in Finland. Westermark made his debut in Stockholm in 1857. He was active in travelling Swedish theater companies and engaged at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki in Finland in 1869–70. In 1870, he founded the first travelling theater company in Finland which performed in the Finnish language as well as Swedish, when previously theater in Finland had always been conducted in Swedish. Antoinette Thérèse Elfforss (née Öberg; 30 November 1823 – 16 April 1905) was a Swedish stage actress and theatre director. Carl Edvard Stjernström (11 October 1816 – 10 February 1877) was a Swedish stage actor and theater director. In 1833, he was accepted as a student at the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Johanna Maria Lind (Madame Goldschmidt) (6 October 18202 November 1887) was a Swedish opera singer, often called the "Swedish Nightingale". One of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, she performed in soprano roles in opera in Sweden and across Europe, and undertook an extraordinarily popular Jenny Lind tour of America, 1850–52, concert tour of the United States beginning in 1850.
