Áureo Lídio Moreira Ribeiro (born 17 February 1979) often simply known as Áureo is a Brazilian politician and a businessman. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he has served as a state representative since 2015. Personal life Áureo is married to Aline and has two children: Gabriel and Alice. He is a member of the Methodist Church. Political career Áureo has been the head of the Solidariedade party in the Brazilian chamber of deputies since September 2017. Áureo voted in favor of the impeachment against then-president Dilma Rousseff. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Brazil Labor Reform (2017)
The 2017 labor reform in Brazil was a significant change in the country's Consolidation of Labor Laws (). According to the government, the goal of the reform was to combat unemployment and the still ongoing 2014 Brazilian economic crisis. The bill was proposed and sent to the Chamber of Deputies by the president Michel Temer on December 23, 2016. Since then, during its processing in the National Congress, it was going through several debates and additions to the original bill, for example, the proposal to end the obligatory syndicate (labor union) tax paid by workers hired under the CLT. The bill was approved by the Chamber on April 26, 2017, with 296 favorable votes and 177 against. Later, in the Federal Senate, it was approved on July 11, 2017, by 50 versus 26 votes. Methodist Church In Brazil
The Methodist Church in Brazil was founded by American missionaries in 1867. The Methodist Episcopal Church in the US brought Methodism to Brazil in 1835; however, missionaries left in 1841 due to lack of funding. Members of the Methodist Episcopal Church (South) returned in 1867 with a view to preaching to Confederate expatriates who had settled in Brazil at the close of the American Civil War.
