Ásta B. Þorsteinsdóttir
Ásta Bryndís Þorsteinsdóttir (1 December 1945–12 October 1998) was an Icelandic politician and member of the Althing. A member of the Social Democratic Party (Iceland), Social Democratic Party, she represented the Reykjavík (Althing constituency), Reykjavík constituency from January 1998 to October 1998. Ásta was born on 1 December 1945 in Reykjavík. She was the daughter of fisherman Þorsteinn Þorsteinsson and clerk Ásdís Eyjólfsdóttir. She received a Academic degree, degree in nursing from the :is:Hjúkrunarskóli Íslands, Icelandic School of Nursing (HÍ) in 1968. She also studied nursing administration at the New School of Nursing from 1987 to 1988 and surgical nursing in Iceland and Denmark. Ásta was a nurse at the Borgarspítalinn, Reykjavík City Hospital (1968–1969); a psychiatric nurse (1971) and surgical nurse (1972–1980) in Aarhus, mostly at the Aarhus Municipal Hospital; a nurse in the outpatient department (1980–1981), a surgical nurse (1982 ...

Althing
The (; ), anglicised as Althingi or Althing, is the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme Parliament, national parliament of Iceland. It is the oldest surviving parliament in the world. The Althing was founded in 930 at ('Thing (assembly), thing fields' or 'assembly fields'), about east of what later became the country's capital, Reykjavík. After Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing lost its legislative power, which was not restored until 1904 when Iceland gained home rule from Denmark. For 641 years, the Althing did not serve as the parliament of Iceland; ultimate power rested with the Norwegian, and subsequently the Danish throne. Even after Iceland's union with Norway in 1262, the Althing still held its sessions at until 1800, when it was discontinued. It was restored in 1844 by royal decree and moved to Reykjavík.
