Árpád Szabó
Árpád Szabó (31 December 1878 – 31 July 1948) was a Hungarian politician, who served as Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary in 1947 and Minister of Agriculture between 1947 and 1948. He taught in Mezőberény since 1901. He became head of the local National Council on 14 November 1918. Mezőberény
Mezőberény (; ; ) is a town in Békés county, Hungary. Location Mezőberény is located in the Great Hungarian Plain, 200 km southeast from Budapest. Highway 46, 47 and Budapest-Szolnok-Békéscsaba- Lökösháza high speed (120–160 km/h (75–99 mph)) railway line also cross the town. History The Medieval village of ''Berény'' was ruined due to the Ottoman wars, native Hungarian population fled from the area. It was rebuilt in the 18th century with German, Hungarian and Slovak settlers and was a multiethnic town until the late 19th century, when Germans and Slovaks adopted the Hungarian language. In 1881, the town had a population of 11,368 people, of which 4,267 were Slovaks, 3,860 Hungarians, 2,614 Germans and 627 of other ethnicites. Imre Nagy
Imre Nagy ( ; ; 7 June 1896 – 16 June 1958) was a Hungarian communist politician who served as Council of Ministers of the Hungarian People's Republic, Chairman of the Council of Ministers (''de facto'' Prime Minister of Hungary, Prime Minister) of the Hungarian People's Republic from 1953 to 1955. In 1956 Nagy became leader of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 against the Soviet-backed government, for which he was sentenced to death and executed two years later. He was not related to previous Agrarianism, agrarianist Prime Minister Ferenc Nagy. Born to a peasant family, Nagy was apprenticed as a Locksmithing, locksmith before being drafted in World War I. Nagy was a committed communist from soon after the Russian Revolution, and through the 1920s he engaged in underground party activity in Hungary. Béla Varga (18 February 1903 – 13 October 1995) was a Hungarian Catholic priest and politician. He was one of the founders of the Independent Smallholders' Party. During World War II, Varga assisted Polish refugees to flee the Nazis. He was arrested by USSR Red Army troops in 1945 and sentenced to death, but released and served as Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary February 7, 1946 – July 3, 1947. Msgr.
