Árni Þór Sigurðsson
Árni Þór Sigurðsson (born 30 July 1960) is an Icelandic diplomat and former member of the Althing. He is temporarily the Chairman of the Special Executive Committee for Grindavik Affairs, that was established to address the challenges faced by the town of Grindavík due to recent seismic activities, including earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. He is on leave from the Foreign Service and has previously served as ambassador of Iceland to Denmark, to Finland, and to the Russian Federation. Career Árni Þór received a cand.mag. degree in Economics and Russian from the University of Oslo in 1986 and subsequently pursued graduate studies in Slavic languages at the Stockholm University and the University of Moscow. Árni Magnússon
Árni Magnússon (; 13 November 1663 – 7 January 1730) was an Icelandic scholar and collector of manuscripts who assembled the Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection. Early life and education Árni was born in 1663 at Kvennabrekka in Dalasýsla, in western Iceland, where his father Magnús Jónsson was the minister (and later prosecutor and sheriff). Magnús Árni Skjöld Magnússon (born 14 March 1968) is an Icelandic academic, politician and former member of the Althing. A member of the Social Democratic Alliance, he represented the Reykjavík constituency from October 1998 to May 1999. Early life Magnús was born on 14 March 1968 in Reykjavík. Árni Johnsen (1 March 1944 – 6 June 2023) was an Icelandic journalist, politician, musician and athlete from Vestmannaeyjar, who represented the Independence Party in the Althing as a member of the South Constituency. Early life Árni was born in Vestmannaeyjar to Poul C. Kanélas, an American soldier of Greek ancestry who was stationed in Iceland during World War II, and Ingibjörg Á. Johnsen. In his youth, Árni competed in track and field. In 1965, he ran the 100 meter dash in a personal best 11.0 seconds. Árni Steinar Jóhannsson
Árni Steinar Jóhannsson (12 June 1953 – 1 November 2015) was an Icelandic politician and member of the Althing. A member of the Left-Green Movement, he represented the Northeastern constituency from May 1999 to May 2003. Árni was born on 12 June 1953 in Dalvík. He was the son of fisherman Jóhann Helgason and shopkeeper Valrós Árnadóttir. His father was amongst several sailors who were killed during a severe blizzard off northern Iceland on 9 April 1963. Árni was the first cousin of Althing member Sigríður Anna Þórðardóttir. After obtaining a general education diploma in Dalvík in 1969, Árni moved to the US to study at the Memorial High School in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Árni Lárentíusson
Árni Lárentíusson (or Laurentiusson) is one of the few medieval Icelandic prose writers known by name, known to have translated '' Dunstanus saga''. Life Árni was born in 1304, the son of Lárentíus Kálfsson and his Norwegian concubine Þuríðr Árnadóttir af Borgundi. His biography is known largely from Einarr Hafliðason's biography of Lárentíus, '' Laurentius saga''. After spending his childhood in Norway, Árni joined his father in Icelandic in 1315 and 1317, Árni and his father became monks at the monastery of Þingeyraklaustur, alongside the translator Bergr Sokkason, whose prose style seems to have influenced Árni's. Árni was consecrated by Jón Halldórsson, bishop of Skálholt, around 1325, and subsequently worked for his father, who by then was the bishop of Hólar. Árni M. Mathiesen (born 2 October 1958 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic politician. From September 2005 through 31 January 2009, he was Minister of Finance (Iceland), Minister of Finance in Iceland. Árni Gautur Arason (born 7 May 1975 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic former football goalkeeper. Árni is also an educated lawyer from the University of Iceland. Club career He played for Rosenborg between January 1998 and December 2003, also making several UEFA Champions League appearances for the club. Árni Frederiksberg (born 13 June 1992) is a Faroese professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger for KÍ Klaksvík and the Faroe Islands national football team. Club career Árni Frederiksberg has spent most of his career with his childhood club NSÍ Runavík. On 1 November 2018, Frederiksberg signed a pre-contract with B36 Tórshavn, where he immediately became one of the leading players. Árni Sveinsson
Árni Sveinsson (born 12 February 1956) is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a midfielder. He won 50 caps for the Iceland national football team between 1975 and 1985. Árni began his career with ÍA and made his senior debut during the 1973 season. He went on to play 199 league matches for the club, scoring 28 goals. During the winter of 1978–79, he had a spell with Dutch Eerste Divisie side Excelsior Rotterdam, where he scored twice in four appearances. In 1987, Árni joined 3. deild club Stjarnan, where was a part of the team that won successive promotions in 1988 and 1989. In total, he played 64 league matches for Stjarnan and scored 42 goals. Árni beiskur or Árni the Bitter (died 22 October 1253; Modern Icelandic: ; Old Norse: ) was an Icelander. He was a follower of Gissur Þorvaldsson who undertook the task of killing Snorri Sturluson. ''Íslendinga saga'' reports the event in an almost newspaper style: ''After that they discovered where Snorri was and those entered the cellar: Markús Marðarson, Símon knútur, Árni beiskur, Þorsteinn Guðinason, Þórarinn Ásgrímsson.
