Ángel Torres (baseball)
Ángel Rafael Torres Ruiz (October 24, 1952 – February 1, 2025) was a Dominican Major League Baseball pitcher who played in with the Cincinnati Reds. He batted and threw left-handed. Torres had a 0–0 record, with a 2.16 ERA, in five games, in his one-year career. He was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1971 as an amateur free agent. He was traded along with Bill Greif and Sam Mejías from the Cardinals to the Montreal Expos for Tony Scott Anthony David Leighton Scott (21 June 1944 – 19 August 2012) was a British film director and producer. Ángel Torres (1928–9 December 2010) was an author, historian and sportswriter who penned numerous Spanish-language books, usually about Cuban baseball. Books he wrote include ''La Historia Del Beisbol Cubano 1878-1976'', ''La Leyenda Del Beisbol Cubano'', ''Tres Siglos De Beisbol Cubano'', ''El Legado Deportivo'' and ''The Baseball Bible'' (in English). He also worked for Fox Sports, calling regular season and World Series baseball games in Spanish alongside Ulpiano Cos Villa. In 2009, he won the National Award for Journalism from the National Journalists Association of Cuba in Exile. Personal life He was born in 1928 in La Habana, Cuba. Ángel Torres Sánchez (born 7 May 1952) is a Spanish businessman, owner of Getafe CF since 2002. Biography Born in Recas, province of Toledo, Torres lost his father to a traffic accident when he was 14, and was orphaned at 18. He moved to Getafe in the Community of Madrid and worked as a mechanic. At Kelvinator, a freezer manufacturer, he lost his job while striking as a member of the Workers' Commissions (CCOO); he was also fired from a factory in Fuenlabrada in solidarity with another employee whose service was terminated. In the 1980s, Torres prospered in construction during a boom in the expansion of Madrid's commuter towns. He sold his interests in the industry in order to buy bars, bingo halls and nightclubs in one of those towns, Getafe. In 2002, the town's mayor, Pedro Castro Vázquez, convinced him to buy the football club Getafe CF.
