The Archdiocese of Harare (Latin: ''Archidioecesis Hararensis'') is the metropolitan see for the Roman Catholic ecclesiastical province of Harare in Zimbabwe. Michael Dixon Bhasera, (born 11 November 1949), is a Zimbabwean Roman Catholic prelate who served as the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, Zimbabwe from 1999 until his resignation in 2022. Before that, from June 1991 until February 1999 he was Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gokwe, Zimbabwe. He served as Apostolic Administrator of the diocese of Gweru from April 2012 until June 2013 and from October 2017 until October 2020. He was appointed bishop by Pope John Paul II in 1991. He resigned from pastoral service on 19 July 2022 at the age of 72 years and 7 months of age. He lives on as Archbishop Emeritus of Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Rudolf Nyandoro (born 11 October 1968) is a Zimbabwean Roman Catholic prelate is the Bishop of Gweru, Zimbabwe since September 2020. Before that from January 2017 until September 2020, he was the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gokwe, Zimbabwe. He was appointed Bishop of Gokwe on 28 January 2017 by Pope Francis. He was installed there on 29 April 2017. The Holy Father transferred him to Gweru, his home area, on 11 September 2020. He was installed at Gweru on 24 October 2020. Gweru
Gweru, originally known as Gwelo, is a city in central Zimbabwe. It is on the centre of Midlands Province. Originally an area known to the Ndebele as "The Steep Place" because of the Gweru River's high banks, in 1894 it became the site of a military outpost established by Leander Starr Jameson. In 1914 it attained municipal status, and in 1971 it became a city. The city has a population of 158,200 as of the 2022 census. Gweru is known for farming activities in beef cattle, crop farming, and commercial gardening of crops for the export market. It is also home to a number of colleges and universities, most prominently Midlands State University and Mkoba Teachers College. The city was nicknamed City of Progress.
