Ángel Castro (first Baseman)
Ángel Castro Pacheco (20 April 1917 – 10 January 1983) was a Mexican professional baseball first baseman. Castro spent twenty seasons playing in the Mexican League from 1938 to 1957. Castro was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the class of 1964. Nicknamed, "el bateador elegante" (the elegant hitter), Castro is considered as one of the first Mexican baseball stars alongside Héctor Espino. Career Castro was born on 20 April 1917 in Empalme, Sonora. He made his professional debut in the Mexican League in 1938 with the Alijadores de Tampico and won the Rookie of the Year Award. In 1939, Castro hit three home runs in a game, becoming the second player to do so in the Mexican League. In 1940, Castro was traded to the Azules de Veracruz and in 1941, he returned to Tampico. First Baseman
A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. The first baseman is responsible for the majority of plays made at that base. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the first baseman is assigned the number 3. Also called first sacker or cornerman, the first baseman is ideally a tall player who throws left-handed and possesses good flexibility and quick reflexes. Armando Marsans
Armando Marsans Mendiondo (October 3, 1887 – September 3, 1960) was a Cuban professional baseball outfielder, first baseman and manager in Major League Baseball (MLB), minor league baseball, the Negro leagues, the Cuban League and the Mexican League. He played and occasionally was a player-manager from 1904 to 1927, and then went on to manage in the Mexican League and the Florida International League for four seasons between 1945 and 1953. Mara and played in three different major leagues in his career: with the Cincinnati Reds in the National League (1911–1914), with the St. Louis Terriers in the Federal League (1914–1915), and with the St. Louis Browns and New York Yankees (1916–1918). Ramón "El Profesor" Bragaña Palacios (May 11, 1909 – May 11, 1985) was a Cuban professional baseball catcher, outfielder, third baseman, pitcher, and first baseman in the Negro leagues and the Mexican League. Lázaro Salazar Vázquez (February 4, 1912 – April 25, 1957) was a Cuban professional baseball outfielder, first baseman, pitcher, and manager in the Negro leagues, playing four major league seasons with the Western Cuban Stars (1930), Pollock's Cuban Stars (1932), and the New York Cubans (1935–1936). He also spent much of his career outside the United States, playing and managing in Mexico and Venezuela. Epitacio "La Mala" Torres Herrera (19 September 1921 – 21 April 1971) was a Mexican professional baseball outfielder and manager. Torres spent 19 seasons playing in the Mexican League (LMB), most of them with Monterrey as right fielder, considered as one of the best players in his position in the LMB's history. He was the first player to accumulate 1000 hits in the Mexican League in 1947 and was enshrined into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964.
