''África Brasil'' is a studio album by Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Jorge Ben. It was released in 1976 by Philips Records. The album was recorded in ten days at Phonogram Studios in Rio de Janeiro with a large ensemble of musicians, including Ben's backing band Admiral Jorge V. Musically, ''África Brasil'' represented a shift in his artistry, as he replaced his acoustic guitar in favor of the electric guitar. Although released under military dictatorship in Brazil, the album avoided censorship, favoring a celebratory and historical tribute to Afro-Brazilian heritage over direct political commentary. ''Samba Esquema Novo'' is the 1963 debut album by Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Jorge Ben. It includes the original recording of the international hit "Mas que Nada". Funk
Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. Afro-Brazilian Music
Afro-Brazilian music consists of a mixture of musical and cultural influences from Sub-Saharan Africa, Portugal, and on a smaller scale, Amerindian music, creating a large variety of styles. ''Jorge Ben'' is the sixth studio album by Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Jorge Ben. It was released in November 1969 by Philips Records. The album was his first recording for a major label since 1965 when his first stint with Philips ended due to creative differences. Ben recorded the album alongside producer Manoel Barenbein, the vocal/percussion band Trio Mocotó, and an orchestral section arranged by José Briamonte and Rogério Duprat. It was written by Ben during his previous few years performing independently and developing his unique samba-based style. Odeon Records is a record label founded in 1903 by Max Straus and Heinrich Zuntz of the International Talking Machine Company in Berlin, Germany. ''Big Ben'' is the fourth album by Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Jorge Ben. It was released in 1965 by Philips Records, his last for the label until ''Jorge Ben'' in 1969. Background The album was the last in a series of LPs recorded by Ben, under pressure from Philips to reproduce his widely successful 1963 debut ''Samba Esquema Novo''. Okayplayer
Okayplayer is an online hip-hop and alternative music website and community, described by ''Rolling Stone'' as a "tastemaker" and "an antidote to dull promotional Web sites used by most artists". The community was founded by The Roots' drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson and author Angela Nissel as a loose musical collective in 1987, and evolved into an online community in 1999.
