Àlex Crivillé
Àlex Crivillé Tapias (born 4 March 1970) is a Spanish former Grand Prix motorcycle racing, Grand Prix motorcycle road racing, road racer. In 1992 he became the first Spaniard to win a 500cc Grand Prix and, in 1999 he became the first Spaniard to win the List of 500cc/MotoGP Motorcycle World Champions, 500cc World Championship. Biography Crivillé was born in Barcelona, Catalonia. He falsified his age in order to start racing at 14 in 1985, the minimum age for a license being 15 in Spain. In that year he won the Criterium Solo Moto, a national series for 75 cc Honda streetbikes. 80cc career Derbi (1987–1988) ;1987 Crivillé started his international career in the now-defunct 80cc World Championship with the Derbi team. 1988 Czechoslovak Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 Czechoslovak motorcycle Grand Prix was the penultimate round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 26–28 August 1988 at the Masaryk Circuit located in Brno, Czechoslovakia. 500 cc race report Wayne Gardner on pole. Wayne Rainey gets a good start, but Tadahiko Taira gets the first turn. At the end of the first lap, it's Gardner, Taira, Christian Sarron, Rainey, and Eddie Lawson in 7th. Lawson needs to finish behind Gardner to win the championship. Gardner is getting a gap, but Lawson has moved to 2nd, while Sarron highsides out. After the race there's a dispute between Lawson and Rainey, Lawson perhaps angry that Team Roberts wasn't playing by the Yamaha team book with Rainey making 2nd place so difficult to get. 1988 Dutch TT
The 1988 Dutch TT was the eighth round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 23–25 June 1988 at the TT Circuit Assen located in Assen, Netherlands. 500 cc race report Christian Sarron on pole, but dropped to the back after a terrible start. Through the first turn it was Eddie Lawson, Pierfrancesco Chili, Ron Haslam, Didier De Radiguès, Wayne Gardner, et al. Haslam ran wide and rode off into the grass. Through the chicane at the end of the first lap, it was Lawson, De Radiguès, Chili, Gardner, Kevin Magee, Rob McElnea, Randy Mamola, Patrick Igoa, Sarron and Wayne Rainey. There was a small gap from Lawson to De Radiguès to Gardner. Gardner caught De Radiguès and started to bridge up to Lawson. De Radiguès slid out but remounted. Sarron and Magee fought for 3rd. 1988 German Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 1988 German motorcycle Grand Prix was the sixth round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 27–29 May, 1988 at the Nürburgring circuit. 500 cc Race report The race was held in wet conditions, with Wayne Gardner starting from the pole position. Wayne Rainey took the first turn from Eddie Lawson, Pierfrancesco Chili, Christian Sarron, Kevin Schwantz (from the second row). Sarron, considered a good wet rider, took the lead. At the end of lap one it was Sarron, Schwantz, Lawson, Kevin Magee, Rainey, and Chili. Schwantz moved into first, then it was Sarron, Magee, Lawson, and Rainey. Schwantz had a large lead. Magee went down. The track was drying slightly. The 1988 Nations motorcycle Grand Prix was the fifth race of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 20–22 May 1988, at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari. 500 cc race report Wayne Gardner on pole. Through the first turn, it was Eddie Lawson, Kevin Schwantz, Didier De Radiguès, Pierfrancesco Chili and Gardner. The 1988 Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix was the third round of the 1988 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 22–24 April 1988 at the Circuito Permanente Del Jarama. This was the first and only victory of the Australian Kevin Magee. 500 cc race report Kevin Magee was on pole. Eddie Lawson got the lead at the first turn from Raymond Roche, Pierfrancesco Chili, et al. At the end of the first lap, Lawson had a gap from Christian Sarron, Wayne Gardner and Magee. Magee moved into 2nd and started to close the gap to Lawson; he managed to pass and took the win by a few lengths. After 21 years, this would be the last Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix on the Jarama circuit.
