Farewell Continental
Farewell Continental is an American rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 2008. The group is the side project of Motion City Soundtrack frontman, Justin Pierre. The group also features keyboardist and vocalist Kari Gray, guitarist Thomas Rehbein, bassist Jim Adolphson and Josh McKay. They have released two EPs and a full-length LP through Paper + Plastick Records. History The group began in 2007 consisting of Justin Pierre and Thomas Rehbein. Pierre was in the middle of recording the album, Even If It Kills Me with his other band, Motion City Soundtrack and decided to make something considerably less poppy. In early 2008, they added three additional members, Kari Gray, Jim Adolphson and Josh McKay to round out the lineup. In a Twitch stream with Joshua Cain, Justin talked about the importance of producer Ed Ackerson, saying he was "kind of like our sixth member." Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Ed Ackerson
Edwin C. Ackerson (July 18, 1965 – October 4, 2019) was an American musician and producer from Minneapolis. He produced or engineered dozens of records including works by prominent artists such as The Jayhawks, The Replacements (band), The Replacements, Motion City Soundtrack, Soul Asylum, Golden Smog, Dave Davies of The Kinks, Wesley Stace, Mason Jennings, Mark Mallman, John Strohm (musician), John Strohm, Brian Setzer, Lizzo, Pete Yorn, The Wallflowers, Rhett Miller of The Old 97s, Jeremy Messersmith, and Juliana Hatfield. He owned a recording studio in Minneapolis, Flowers Studio, Flowers, and co-founded the Susstones record label. Ackerson led several notable Twin Cities pop/rock bands including Polara (band), Polara and The 27 Various, and released several solo records under his own name. ''AbsolutePunk'' was a website, online community, and alternative music news source founded by Jason Tate (the most recent CEO). The website mainly focused on artists who are relatively unknown to mainstream audiences, but it was known to feature artists who have eventually achieved crossover success, for example, Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy. The primary musical genres of focus were emo and pop punk, but other genres were included. Absolutepunk was acquired by Buzzmedia in 2008. After Buzzmedia filed for bankruptcy, Tate reclaimed the site's domain and name and consequently shut the site down on April 1, 2016.
