Smith & Wesson Model 29
The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a six-shot, double-action revolver chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge and manufactured by the United States company Smith & Wesson. The Model 29 was offered with barrels as standard models. Other barrel lengths were available either by special order from Smith & Wesson's Custom Shop or custom built by gunsmiths. The barreled variant had a full-length underlug. Finish options available included a highly polished blued or nickel-plated surface. At the time of its introduction, the Model 29 was the most powerful production handgun, although it was later overtaken by handguns chambered for the even larger .454 Casull, .50 Action Express, and .500 S&W Magnum cartridges. John Taffin
John August Taffin (May 2, 1939 – March 10, 2025) was an American author from Boise, Idaho who wrote several columns for gun magazines including ''Guns'', '' Gun Digest'', ''Sixgunner'', ''Shoot!'', and '' American Handgunner''. A math teacher from 1964 to 1995, Taffin was regarded as an authority on single-action revolvers, handloading, handgun hunting, big-bore revolvers, and metallic silhouette shooting. Taffin authored five books and over 500 published articles. His monthly published gun columns included: Siluetas, Campfire Tales, The Sixgunner, and Taffin Tests. Taffin was widely regarded as an authority on revolvers, magnum cartridge load development, firearms rights and handguns in general. In 2008, Taffin was instrumental in opening the Elmer Keith Museum in Boise, Idaho. The .45 Colt (11.43×33mmR), often called the .45 Long Colt, is a rimmed straight-walled, centerfire handgun cartridge dating to 1872. It was originally a black-powder revolver round developed for the Colt Single Action Army revolver. This cartridge was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1873 and served as an official US military handgun cartridge for 19 years, before being replaced by the .38 Long Colt in 1892.
