.224 Valkyrie
The .224 Valkyrie (5.6×41 mm) cartridge is a .22 caliber (5.6 mm) rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge, developed by Federal Premium Ammunition to rival the performance of the .22 Nosler, while still being compatible with modern sporting rifles (MSRs). The case is based on that of the 6.8mm Remington SPC, which in turn was based on the .30 Remington. A rim is an external flange that is machined, cast, molded, stamped, or pressed around the bottom of a firearms cartridge. Thus, rimmed cartridges are sometimes called "flanged" cartridges. Although the designations "ArmaLite AR-10, AR-10" and "Colt AR-15, AR-15" are respectively trademarks of ArmaLite and Colt's Manufacturing Company, Colt, variants of both are made by many manufacturers. Federal Premium Ammunition is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Czechoslovak Group, located in Anoka, Minnesota. With a workforce of nearly 1,500, Federal manufactures shotshell, centerfire, and Rimfire ammunition, rimfire ammunition and components.
