"(Theme from) ''The Monkees''" is a 1966 pop rock song, written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart as the signature tune for the TV series ''The Monkees''. Two versions were recorded – one for their first album ''The Monkees'' and a second shorter rendition designed to open the television show. Both feature vocals by Micky Dolenz. The full-length version was released as a single in several countries including Australia, where it became a hit, reaching No. 8. It also made ''Billboard Magazine'''s "Hits of the World" chart in both Mexico and Japan, reaching the Top 20 in Japan and the Top 10 in Mexico. The Monkees
The Monkees were an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles in the mid-1960s. The band consisted of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones (musician), Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Spurred by the success of ''The Monkees (TV series), The Monkees'' television series, they were one of the most successful bands of the late 1960s. Samuel Lawrence Taylor (June 26, 1942 – August 19, 2019) was an American bass guitarist, best known for his work as a member of the blues rock band Canned Heat. Before joining Canned Heat, he had been a session musician, session bassist for The Monkees and Jerry Lee Lewis. He was the younger brother of Mel Taylor, longtime drummer of The Ventures. Early life Taylor was born in New York City. His mother was Jewish and his father was a "white Anglo-Saxon Protestant, WASP" from Tennessee. Taylor was the younger brother to Mel Taylor (1933-1996), drummer for The Ventures. As a kid, Taylor's family moved back and forth from Brooklyn and Tennessee. They also lived in Texas and California. Louis Shelton
William Louis Shelton (born April 6, 1941) is an American guitarist and music producer. Biography During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s Shelton was a session musician working in recording studios around Hollywood. Among his more notable session work was for the Monkees, including their first self-titled album, and both recordings of the Boyce and Hart songs, "Last Train to Clarksville", "Valleri", and " (Theme From) The Monkees". Shelton played the flamenco-style guitar solo on "Valleri", which Michael Nesmith had to mimic for the cameras on their TV series. Even after the Monkees began playing on their own records, Shelton remained a favorite among their session players. Shelton was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame and is a member of the famous group of LA session musicians known as " The Wrecking Crew". The Ron Hicklin Singers were a group of Los Angeles studio singers contracted and organized by Ron Hicklin. They are mostly known as the real singers behind the background vocals on The Partridge Family recordings.
