History

The name "Mud Creek" was associated with the village in the 19th century. The village was incorporated in 1883. Unwanted attention was brought to the village in 1993 by the slaying of a young boy, Derrick Robie, aged four, by thirteen-year-old Eric Smith.

The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 2.97. The age distribution was 27.5% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% 65 or older. The median age was 35 years.
