History

Miscellaneous

The town is famous for its annual Fourth of July celebration held every year at the town's park. Numerous vendors set up and there is an all-day car show. The Masonic Lodge serves breakfast until 11:00 am. At dusk, those wishing to watch the fireworks gather around the park's pond and spread blankets for the hour-long show. Cars will also be lined up for a 1/2 mile on all roads leading into the town, with people sitting in their lawn chairs along the road to watch the show. Forman's Blasters, of New Richmond, are in charge of setting off the fireworks. On December 5, 2003, the Town's Marshal R. Mark Clapp, died in the line of duty as a result of injuries and illness sustained during a violent struggle on the evening of December 4. Despite Marshal Clapp's untimely death, the fact that more than four police officers were needed to subdue the 17 year-old suspect who had a documented violent record, a jury found the defendant, Chad Byrd, not-guilty of the Marshal's demise. Byrd was later sent to prison for murdering his brother with a shotgun in rural New Richmond.
