The monument portrays Nizami sitting with a pen in his right hand. There is an inscription on the monument in

, saying “Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi 1141-1209” on the monument ( it, POETA AZERBAIGIANO NIZAMI GANJAVI 1141 – 1209). There is also an inscription on the pedestal saying “A gift from Azerbaijani Republic to Rome, April 20, 2012” ( it, Dono della Repubblica dell'Azerbaigian alla città di Roma, 20 aprile 2012). Description was condemned by Iranian expatriates in Italy and Italian students interested in Iranian culture, who called for changing the written text as 'one of the greatest Persian poets'
