Viswanatha Iyer was born in Maharajapuram to Rama Iyer, a singer. He was trained initially by Umayalpuram Swaminatha Iyer, a direct disciple of Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer. Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer had learnt from a direct disciple of
