Amateur career

In 2006, Castillo won the gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships and the gold in the Romana Cup. In 2007 he won the bronze in the ALBA Games, silver in the Romana Cup, bronze in the Dominican Independence Cup. Castillo qualified to the 2008 Olympic Games in
