Los Mina
Los Mina (in full: San Lorenzo de Los Mina) is a eector in the city of Santo Domingo Este in the province of Santo Domingo of the Dominican Republic. Los Mina was part of Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional. Santo Domingo Este was created as municipality in 2001 by law 163-01, splitting the Santo Domingo province from the Distrito Nacional with Santo Domingo Este taking the other sectors of Alma Rosa I, Alma Rosa II, El Almirante, Hainamosa, Invivienda, Lucerna, Mendoza, Ozama, Ralma, San Isidro, Sans Sousi, and Urbanización Italia. It was founded as a village for formerly French-enslaved maroons in the late-1670s as San Lorenzo de los Negros de Mina, later shortened to San Lorenzo de Los Mina. During the 1822–44 Haitian occupation, the village was officially designated in the French language as Saint-Laurent des Mines. Santo Domingo Este is a municipality and the provincial capital of the Santo Domingo province in the Dominican Republic. It has one municipal district (''distrito municipal''), San Luis. Santo Domingo Este is across the Ozama River which divides the east and west sections of metropolitan Santo Domingo. This eastern side is more residential and less commercially developed, but it too has experienced growth, though at a slower pace than Santo Domingo itself, with new malls and department stores. Distrito Nacional
The Distrito Nacional (; D.N.) is a subdivision of the Dominican Republic enclosing the capital Santo Domingo. It is not in any of the Provinces of the Dominican Republic, provinces, but in practice, it acts as a province on its own. Before October 16, 2001, the Distrito Nacional was much larger, including what is now known as Santo Domingo Province. Maroon (people)
Maroons are descendants of Africans in the Americas who escaped from slavery and formed their own settlements. They often mixed with indigenous peoples, eventually evolving into separate creole cultures such as the Garifuna and the Mascogos. The Haitian occupation of Santo Domingo ( es, Ocupación haitiana de Santo Domingo; french: Occupation haïtienne de Saint-Domingue; ht, Okipasyon ayisyen nan Sen Domeng) was the annexation and merger of then-independent Republic of Spanish Haiti (formerly Santo Domingo) into the Republic of Haiti, that lasted twenty-two years, from 9 February 1822 to 27 February 1844. Leonardo Michael Flores Ozuna (Los Mina, 26 July 1986 – 30 April 2014 San Adrián de Besós), known by his stage name Monkey Black, was a singer of urban music from the Dominican Republic. Early life Flores was born in Los Mina, Santo Domingo July 26, 1986, and recorded his first material with El Sujeto at age 10. He then emigrated to Puerto Rico where he dedicated himself to various trades. Career When he returned to the Dominican Republic, Flores became an urban artist. In 2006, he collaborated with Big K. Together they recorded the CD entitled ''Tienen Miedo''. This album and the support of Lápiz Conciente helped him become widely known. Gilbert Lenin Castillo Rivera (born August 21, 1988) is a Dominican professional boxer who competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Early and personal life Castillo was born on August 21, 1988, in Santo Domingo. He boxed for the Julito López Club in Los Mina trained by Papito Pujols. Amateur career In 2006, Castillo won the gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships and the gold in the Romana Cup. Hansel Enmanuel Donato Domínguez, known as Hansel Enmanuel, (born 24 October 2003) is a Dominican college basketball player for the Austin Peay Governors of the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN).
