History

The hospital officially opened as Cork Regional Hospital in November 1978. A new Regional Cancer Centre opened in December 2009 and a new Cardiac Renal Centre, built at a cost of €85 million, opened in October 2010.

In 2011 it was confirmed on 6 April 2011 that the hospital would receive a new helipad costing €1.5m and, after a lengthy site selection process, a planning application for the helipad was submitted in November 2018.
