Yemen At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Yemen competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Olympics since its reunification in 1990. The Yemen Olympic Committee selected a team of four athletes, three men and one woman, to compete in three sports. Among the Yemeni athletes, judoka Ali Khousrof only made his second consecutive Olympic appearance. Taekwondo jin and 2011 Pan Arab Games champion Tameem Al-Kubati was the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Yemen, however, has yet to win its first ever Olympic medal. 2011 Pan Arab Games
The 2011 Pan Arab Games also known as the 12th Pan Arab Games took place in Doha, Qatar from 6 to 23 December 2011. This was the first time that the country had hosted the multi-sport event. Khalifa International Stadium was the main venue for the competition. Preparation Host selection Qatar was awarded rights to organise the games beating Lebanon in the bidding process. Yulis Gabriel Mercedes Reyes (born November 12, 1979 in Monte Plata, Monte Plata Province) is a Dominican taekwondo practitioner and Olympic medalist. He won a silver medal in the – 58 kg class at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after tying with Guillermo Pérez of Mexico, but losing by a judge's decision. The men's 58 kg competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held on 8 August, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre. Competition format The main bracket consisted of a single elimination tournament, culminating in the gold medal match. Two bronze medals were awarded at the Taekwondo competitions. A repechage was used to determine the bronze medal winners. Every competitor who lost to one of the two finalists competed in the repechage, another single-elimination competition.
