Umudike
Umudike is a semi-urban settlement in Ikwuano Local Government Area Abia State, Nigeria, about 11 kilometers southeast of Umuahia, the state capital city. It is home to the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and to the National Root Crops Research Institute The town is surrounded by other neighbouring communities/villages which it shares it common beliefs and socio-cultural ethics with. These towns include; Umuariaga, Amaoba, Amawom Amawom is a village in the Oboro clan in Ikwuano Local government Area of Abia State. The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria was established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Njoku on 27 May 1993, while other key officials of the University were appointed later. The first set of students were admitted into the institution during the 1993/94 academic year with a student population of 82. The nickname "Umudykes" or "U'dykers" is used for students, alumni, and sports teams of the university. Ikwuano
Ikwuano is a Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. Its headquarters is in Isiala Oboro. The name 'Ikwuano' etymologically indicates that there are four different ancient kingdoms that make up the community called Ikwuano. These include Oboro, Ibere, Ariam/Usaka and Oloko. The postal code of the area is 440. It is one of the five LGAs that make up the Abia Central Senatorial District. As at 2022, the executive chairman is Stephen Mpamugo. National Root Crops Research Institute
The National Root Crops Research Institute, Umudike, Abia State is an agricultural research institute in Nigeria. Its origins can be traced back to an experimental farm established at Moor Plantation, Ibadan on January 1, 1923 by the Nigerian Department of Agriculture. The School of Agriculture was established in 1955, and the two establishments were combined as the Eastern Nigeria Agricultural Research and Training Station (ARTS) in 1956, with headquarters at Enugu. In 1972, the institution assumed federal status as the Federal Agricultural Research and Training Station (FARTS). In 1976 it was renamed the National Root Crops Research Institute, coming under the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria. Abia State
Abia State ( ig, Ȯha Abia) is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. Umuahia
Umuahia () is the capital city of Abia State in southeastern Nigeria. Umuahia is located along the rail road that lies between Port Harcourt to its south,and Enugu city to its north. Umuahia has a population of 359,230 according to the 2006 Nigerian census. Umuahia is indigenously Igbo. Umuahia is renowned for being a railway and agricultural market center, which attracts traders and farmers from neighboring towns to sell their produce, such as yams, cassava, corn (maize), taro, citrus fruits, and palm oil and kernels. Ndoro (town)
Ndoro (originally pronounced Ndi-oru; Igbo for People of Oru) is one of the major communities of the Oboro clan in Ikwuano Local government area of Abia state in Nigeria. It is about 16km away from the state capital, Umuahia and is located along the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road. Oru Oboro is the only autonomous community of Ndoro. Hence, the people of Ndoro are called Ndi Oru. The traditional ruler of the Oru Ancient Kingdom as at 2022 is HRM Eze Ralph Ukachi Ogbonna in whom is conferred with the title of Oru 1 of Oru Onyerubi. History Ndoro is one of five villages that descended from the great warlord, Oboro. Work toward freedom led to the formation of a national planning committee, which in 1958 named for a competition to choose a national flag. Thousands of designs were submitted, but the flag of equivalent green-white-green flat stripes, green stood for farming and white for unity and peace was chosen.
