John Power (director)
John Beresford Power (20 November 1930 – February 2016) was an Australian film and television director, who began his career as a journalist. Early life and journalism career Power was born in Maitland, New South Wales. His older brother was Dave Power, a long-distance runner who won medals at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. After leaving school, he joined the ''Maitland Mercury'' as a cadet journalist, later moving to Sydney to work for ''The Daily Telegraph'' and ''The Daily Mirror''. He was a political journalist in Canberra at the time of the Australian Labor Party split of 1955, events which he would later cover in the documentary film ''Like a Summer Storm''. Michael Thornhill
Michael Thornhill (29 March 1941 – 22 January 2022) was a film producer, screenwriter, and director. Career Thornhill had a background in freelance journalism and publishing including working as a film critic. He was a member of the WEA Film Study Group in the 1960s, where he met writers Ken Quinnell and Frank Moorhouse. He wrote film articles on film for the WEA Film Study Group film journal ''Film Digest'' from 1965. He and Quinnell published the film journal ''SCJ: The Sydney Cinema Journal'' from 1966 to 1968. He was the film critic for the '' Sydney Morning Herald'' and ''The Australian'' (1969 to 1973). Thornhill had an extensive career in the Australian film industry. He is best known for his films ''The F.J. Holden'' (1977) and ''Between Wars'' (1974). Perth Mint Swindle
The Perth Mint Swindle is the popular name for the robbery of 49 gold bars weighing from the Perth Mint in Western Australia on 22 June 1982. The bullion was valued at A$653,000 at that time (2011:$2.02 million). , the value of the of gold would approach AUD $3.7 million. According to police at the time, three brothers, Ray, Peter and Brian Mickelberg, orchestrated the robbery. The three went to trial and were found guilty of the conspiracy and sentenced in 1983 to twenty, sixteen and twelve years in Prison, jail respectively. All three convictions were overturned in 2004. To date the case remains unsolved and continues to be fought by the Mickelbergs who maintain their innocence and allege a conspiracy by the Western Australia Police to frame them. Plot summary In the beginning of the 1980s boom in Western Australia, the Mickelberg brothers Ray (Grant Bowler), Peter (Todd Lasance) and Brian (Josh Quong Tart) spend their days looking for adventure and finding new ways to earn money.
