Ronnie Alcano
Ronato (Ronnie) Alcano (pronounced al-kah-no) (born 27 July 1972), is a Filipino professional pool player, nicknamed "Ronnie ''Calamba''" and "the Volcano". He won both the 2006 WPA World Nine-ball Championship and the 2007 WPA World Eight-ball Championship. Career history After graduating in elementary school, Alcano didn't proceed to high school due to financial problems. He then opted to play pool for a living. Alcano's recognitions in the Philippines began with his performances at the 2000 Rising Stars Tournament. By the final, he was highly favored to win the title, yet in the final match (a to 13), Alcano lost to Edgar Acaba by just a rack short, 13–12. Despite having a 12–7 advantage, Alcano missed while only three balls away. Acaba then returned to the table and won the needed 6 racks in a row to win the match and the title. Wu Chia-ching
Wu Jiaqing (; born February 9, 1989) is a Taiwanese-born Chinese professional pool player. He is nicknamed the ''Taishan Shentong'' ("Little Genius from Taishan"). Since 2011, Wu switched from representing Chinese Taipei to representing the country of China. Previously known as Wu Chia-ching, the spelling of his name was changed upon moving to mainland China. Career Raised by his grandmother from the age of 2, Wu began playing eight-ball at the age of 10 at his family-run pool hall. When he became serious about pool, his grandmother would shuttle him from one competition venue to another on her scooter. Alejandro Salvador "Alex" Pagulayan (born June 25, 1978) is a Filipino-born Canadian professional pool player. His nickname is "the Lion", given to him by Paul Thornley, Canadian snooker player whom he credits as his mentor. Pagulayan is considered one of the best pool players of all time as well as one of the best one-pocket players of all time. He was born in Cabagan, Isabela, Philippines and was raised in Toronto, Canada. A winner of over 100 international titles, Reyes was the first player to win world championships in two different pool disciplines. The WPA World Nine-ball Championship is an annual professional nine-ball pool tournament contested since 1990. The championship is sanctioned by the World Pool Association (WPA) and principally sponsored and organized by Matchroom Sport, who promote he event as the World Pool Championship. The championship is divided into men's, women's and wheelchair divisions. History In the summer of 1989, the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) began plans for a world championship tournament. Yang Ching-shun (; 3 April 1978 – 6 December 2023) was a Taiwanese professional Pocket billiards, pool player, nicknamed "the Son of Pool". Biography Yang won the nine-ball event of the 1998 Asian Games against then World Pool champion Kunihiko Takahashi. He defended it in 2002 against Warren Kiamco. In an unsuccessful attempt to defend that title for the second time, Yang settled for third place as he was bested in the semi-finals by Jeff de Luna who then finished second to Antonio Gabica. Even though he never won a world championship in any discipline of pool as his fellow Taiwanese player Chao Fong-pang did, Yang was often regarded as a potential world champion.
