Luxembourg At The 2012 Summer Olympics
Luxembourg competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The Luxembourg Olympic and Sporting Committee sent a delegation of nine athletes to the event—five men and four women—who competed in 7 sports. Originally, Luxembourg's delegation consisted of the Schleck brothers, who were meant to participate in road cycling. However, they both had to withdraw from the event after injury and a failed drugs test. Five athletes had previously competed in the Olympic Games for Luxembourg, including swimmers Laurent Carnol and Raphaël Stacchiotti in 2008. Ni Xialian competed at her third Olympics. Luxembourg's delegation failed to win an Olympic medal in London. Gilles Müller
Gilles Müller (; born 9 May 1983) is a former professional tennis player from Luxembourg. He is a two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and the most successful male tennis player in the history of his country. Müller won two titles on the ATP World Tour and achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 21 on 31 July 2017. He was known for his powerful left-handed serve and excellent net skills. Following his retirement, Müller was appointed as Luxembourg's Davis Cup team captain. 1984 Summer Olympics
The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. It marked the second time that Los Angeles had hosted the Games, the first being in 1932. California was the home state of the incumbent U.S. President Ronald Reagan, who officially opened the Games. These were the first Summer Olympic Games under the IOC presidency of Juan Antonio Samaranch. Luxembourgish National Road Race Championships
The Luxembourg National Road Race Championship is a cycling race where Luxembourg cyclists decide who will become the champion for the year to come. The event was established in 1922. The event was organised alongside the German and Swiss national championships from 1974 to 1986, and in 1989 and 1994. The 1936, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1963 to 1973, 1987 and 1988 editions were held in the form of a time trial. A separate Time Trial Championship has been held since 1999. The national title was not awarded in 1991 nor 1995. The women's championship was not established until 1959. 2010 UCI Road World Championships – Men's Road Race
The Men's Individual Road Race of the 2010 UCI Road World Championships cycling event took place on 3 October in Melbourne and concluded in Geelong, Australia. Thor Hushovd claimed the World Championship in a sprint finish, to become the first Norwegian to win the World Championship road race. Route The race started at Federation Square at Melbourne. For the first time, the World Championship route started and finished in different locations, with the riders traveling to Geelong before entering the finishing circuit. The UCI Road World Championships are the annual world championships for bicycle road racing organized by the (UCI). Trek–Segafredo () is a professional road bicycle racing team at UCI WorldTeam level licensed in the United States. Formerly RadioShack–Nissan, in 2014, Trek took over the ownership of the team and its ProTeam License. Archery At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Individual
The men's individual archery competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 27 July to 3 August at Lord's Cricket Ground. Oh Jin-Hyek of South Korea won the gold medal, followed by Takaharu Furukawa from Japan with silver and Dai Xiaoxiang, representing China, with the bronze. Competition format The competitors were ranked 1st to 64th based on their ranking round results and seeded into a head-to-head knock-out bracket based on this ranking. The 2012 Olympics introduced a new format for the knockout rounds. Each head-to-head match was a best-of-five sets match where each competitor shoots three arrows per set. Competitors received two points for winning the set and one point for a draw with the first competitor to reach six points winning the match. Rick van der Ven (born 14 April 1991, in Oss) is a Dutch archer who started to practise archery at the age of 8. In 2009 at the World Junior Championship in Ogden, Utah Rick was the runner-up with a silver medal. In 2011 at the World Junior Championship in Legnica, Poland he won silver with the Mixed Team, bronze with the men's team and finished 4th in the individual event. In May 2012 in the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, Van der Ven became European Champion in Outdoor Archery, both individually and in the team event. The World Archery Federation (WA, also and formerly known as FITA from the French ''Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc'') is the governing body of the sport of archery.
