List Of Hazing Deaths In The Philippines
This is a list of hazing-related deaths in the Philippines. This is not an exhaustive list. Inclusion in this list requires that the incident was described by the media as a hazing-related death. Majority of deaths in this list include but is not limited to cases that involve fraternities. The first reported hazing death in the Philippines was that of Gonzalo Mariano Albert, a University of the Philippines Diliman student and an Upsilon Sigma Phi neophyte. He died in 1954. The death of Leonardo Villa in 1991 led to the passage of the Anti-Hazing Act of 1995. Fraternities
A fraternity (from Latin ''frater'': "brother"; whence, " brotherhood") or fraternal organization is an organization, society, club or fraternal order traditionally of men associated together for various religious or secular aims. Fraternity in the Western concept developed in the Christian context, notably with the religious orders in the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. The concept was eventually further extended with medieval confraternities and guilds. In the early modern era, these were followed by fraternal orders such as Freemasons and Odd Fellows, along with gentlemen's clubs, student fraternities, and fraternal service organizations. University Of The Visayas
The University of the Visayas (UV) is a private institution located in Cebu City, Philippines. It is the first school in the province of Cebu to attain university status. History Vicente Gullas (1898–1970) founded the University of the Visayas in 1919 aiming to educate young people from average-income families. It was initially called the Visayan Institute, and occupied two rooms rented at the City Intermediate School. The number of students had increased from 37 in 1919 to 87 in 1920, and kept growing, but Gullas could not find a permanent building for the institute and kept moving over various locations in Cebu, borrowing auxiliary facilities from other schools nearby, such as physical education grounds of the Cebu Normal School and the public library near Fuente Osmeña. San Narciso, Zambales
San Narciso, officially the Municipality of San Narciso ( ilo, Ili ti San Narciso; tl, Bayan ng San Narciso), is a 4th class municipality of the Philippines, municipality in the Philippine Province, province of Zambales, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 30,759 people. San Narciso is famous for its beaches along the South China Sea that are suited for surfing. Silang, Cavite
Silang, officially the Municipality of Silang ( tgl, Bayan ng Silang), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 295,644 people. Silang is located in the eastern section of Cavite. It is home to the Philippine National Police Academy, PDEA Academy, and International Institute of Rural Reconstruction head office. Philippine Merchant Marine Academy
The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy ( fil, Akademiya sa Bapor Pangkalakalan ng Pilipinas) also referred to by its acronym PMMA) is a maritime higher education institution operated by the Philippine government in San Narciso, Zambales. Students are called midshipmen but are often also referred to as cadets. Upon graduation, students are commissioned as ensigns (second lieutenants) in the Philippine Navy Reserve and have the option to join the merchant marine, the Philippine Navy, or the Philippine Coast Guard. Cavite City
Cavite City, officially the City of Cavite ( fil, Lungsod ng Kabite, Spanish and cbk, Ciudad de Cavite), is a 4th class component city in the Philippines.
